The 2025 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort was an exciting race that had it all: excitement, calamities and dreams realized.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri secured the win, his 7th of the season, and extended his lead in the Drivers’ Championship to 34 points over teammate Lando Norris

Piastri led from start to finish and made the strategy work perfectly. Rookie Isack Hadjar also made waves, and took his first ever F1 podium in 3rd and shown he’s guaranteed to be a future star.

Race Overview

The race started off cleanly enough and Piastri took control. Norris was looking strong and was about to deliver a one-two for McLaren but an oil leak caused him to retire on lap 65.

After the race Norris said it was “frustrating” and “it hurts”. He told Sky Sports F1: “I just want to go have a burger and go home”. Despite the disappointment he’s still determined and knows the gap has grown but he has 9 races to make up for it and will “give it everything” from now on.

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella summed it up: “Today we experienced the two sides of motorsport.” Lando was in contention to try to win the race. We had the joy and the pain at the same time, this is motor racing.”

Isack Hadjar’s Breakthrough: From Struggles to First Podium

Isack Hadjar started the 2025 season in the worst possible way, struggling in the early races and often outside the points. But the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort was a turning point.

The Racing Bulls rookie scored his first-ever Formula 1 podium with a third place behind Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen.

For a 20 year-old driver, he displayed his composure and intensity well. This podium also now also makes him the 5th youngest driver to again make the podium in F1 history, and provided another piece to the success story that will most likely make him one of the best young talents in F1 history.

The young Frenchman described it as “an amazing feeling to be on the podium for the first time. The team has been working hard, and it’s great to see our efforts paying off.”

Team Performances

Max Verstappen was able to bring home 2nd place for Red Bull, he dealt with the chaos and ended up getting some good points.

Ferrari on the other hand had a tough day. Charles Leclerc crashed after a mistake of Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton spun and crashed and the team scored 0 points, which hasn't happened in a while.

The 7-time champion said: “It’s not a normal sort of thing for me to have, [to] crash out of a race. I can’t really say too much more about it.”

Championship Implications

The results also changed the championship standings. If Norris had completed the race, only 2 points would have separated him from Piastri. Now the young Australian driver leads the championship with 309 points, Norris 275, and Verstappen 205.

McLaren extended their lead in the Constructors’ Championship with 584 points, well ahead of Ferrari. Between Piastri’s win, Norris’s heartbreak and Ferrari’s struggles Zandvoort showed how crazy this season is.

We still have nine races to go, so the battle for the Drivers’ titles between teammates should be intense.
