A late-night posting on Twitter on Tuesday night had NASCAR fans and F1 fans alike buzzing. The post came from none other than Alpha Prime Racing, a NASCAR Xfinity Series stock car team.
“Not if HE has anything to say about it…” Alpha Prime Racing wrote, attaching a picture of a black-and-white silhouette. The silhouette appeared to feature a man with a loosely tied ponytail.

Instantly, social media users chimed in wondering if it was supposed to be famous F1 driver Lewis Hamilton. In fact, more than a few took that as the likeliest answer.
“Either Brennan Poole is turning into prime Hamilton this weekend or did you guys somehow managed to get Hamilton?” one user wrote. Added another: “Lewis Hamilton? Is he racing Xfinity for you?”
It’s unclear, of course, whether Hamilton might be able to make an Xfinity Series appearance on such short notice. The field for Sonoma has already been announced. Could Hamilton sub in for another driver on short notice?
Social media users ran wild with the ideas in the comments beneath Alpha Prime Racing’s post. In any case, it certainly makes for some interesting water cooler talk for Wednesday morning.
It’s going to be tough to beat van Gisbergen on a road course, where he absolutely thrives. He’s been virtually untouchable on them on the NASCAR circuit of late.
Just last week, van Gisbergen swept both the Xfinity Series race and the Cup Series race from the pole position. That’s something that hadn’t been done in a long time.
But it’s not just that van Gisbergen is winning on road courses. It’s how he’s doing it. Some are already wondering if he’s the best road course racer ever.
That’s the backdrop that Alpha Prime Racing teased into on Tuesday night. You can understand why it caused such a stir, because a driver the caliber of Lewis Hamilton going against a Shane van Gisbergen on a road course would truly be something.
