F1, as a sport, has come a long way since its inception in the 1950s. It has evolved massively but despite the changes in terms of technology and other areas of the sport, the old times still hold a lot of value for playing a massive part in putting F1 on the map.
The Grand Prix cars of the past decades are an exclusive commodity, and the former F1 driver, Jody Scheckter, has made it known that he will put 12 cars from his collection into RM Sotheby’s Monaco sale on 11 May.
Moreover, as per Autosport, it has also been made known that six of the cars are F1 challengers. The main car that he is putting up at the auction is the world championship winning, Ferrari 312 T4 . Jody Scheckter won the world championship with the car in 1979.
Moreover, one other important thing about the car is that it was the last Challenger that was built during Ferrari icon, Enzo Ferrari‘s lifetime. There were a total of five 312 T4s that were built and Scheckter’s car is the fourth in the line with chassis number 40. It helped him in claiming back-to-back victories in the Belgian and Monaco GPs.
Other F1 Grand Prix cars heading to the RM Sotheby auction
While the Ferrari 312 T4 will be one of the main attractions during the RM Sotheby auction, five other F1 cars will also be made available for sale. It includes the 1971 McLaren M19A, the car in which Scheckter made his F1 debut.
He is also putting in the market the recreation of the unique six-wheeled Tyrrell P34, a car he used to win the 1976 Swedish GP. The other F1 cars include Harvey Postlethwaite-penned 1977 Wolf WR1, 1973 McLaren M23, and 1975 Tyrrell 007.
While these are the cars from Scheckter’s F1 collection, he is also putting quite a few other cars from Formula 2 and Formula 3 up for sale. It is believed that the overall estimated amount of the 12 cars that the South African is putting up for sale is around a whopping 10.9 million euros.
The pinnacle of motor racing has a rich history that is full of spectacular moments, courtesy of the cars that have come and gone over the years. Considering this, Jody Scheckter’s F1 cars collection is surely going to turn quite a few heads at the much anticipated Monaco auction.
