Lewis Hamilton has faced some extremely disappointing consequences in his debut season with Ferrari. The Briton hasn’t achieved a podium in the first 14 races of the 2025 season and is looking doubtful of getting one anytime soon. As such, Hamilton is left completely dumbfounded, as he took some brutal jibes at himself after the woes at the Hungarian GP. However, ex-F1 driver Christian Danner believes that the 40-year-old has an ulterior motive behind his brutal self-criticism.

Lewis Hamilton‘s time at the Hungarian GP was nothing short of a nightmare. The Briton looked uncompetitive since the beginning of the weekend, as his poor form carried over to the Qualifying and race sessions as well. Hamilton couldn’t hold back from criticizing himself heavily after his woeful outing in Budapest. Although he came clean on some of the things he said, Christian Danner still casts doubts on the seven-time champion’s sudden downfall in confidence.

Christian Danner recalled the Hungarian GP and how Lewis Hamilton blasted himself for his poor performances. Danner reckoned that watching Hamilton punish himself so heavily and pretending to forget how to drive the car seemed unearthly. The German insisted that the 40-year-old candor looked more like an exaggeration of the problems he was facing.

A Lewis Hamilton who punishes himself so much, pretends to have forgotten how to drive… That almost looked a little exaggerated to me.

Danner made a bold claim that Lewis Hamilton staged his loathing feelings at the Hungarian GP to sensitize the world, while in the background he always believed in himself. The German believed that Hamilton wasn’t honest and asserted that he did not doubt himself. The 67-year-old reckoned that the seven-time champion in Budapest, wasn’t like he always was on the Formula 1 grid.

It was like staging a little more than it actually is to sensitise the world, which knows I’m not that bad. I’m pretty sure that was wanted by Hamilton and wasn’t honest. He didn’t honestly doubt himself. It can’t be, it doesn’t fit in with him.

Christian Danner declares Lewis Hamilton indirectly fired shots at Ferrari

Ferrari’s performance hasn’t been upto the mark as Lewis Hamilton hopes that the team figures out the problem and bounces back soon. Hamilton has never been so demotivated and negative while talking about himself and his capabilities. As such, Christian Danner speculated that the 40-year-old’s attitude at the Hungarian GP could have been an indirect warning to the Italian constructor.

Christian Danner pointed out that Lewis Hamilton wanted Ferrari to know about his true feelings regarding the incessant performance struggles at the team. Hamilton had to let the team know that they’d be surprised to find out that he was aware of the issues, even those that they might try to hide. Danner declared that there was no good mood or atmosphere within the Italian constructor currently as they hoped to recover from the massive slump.

To show those at Ferrari: if you think I don’t know what’s going on, then you’ll be surprised. There is no good mood, no good atmosphere and no good prospects for the future.

Christian Danner noted

Even though Ferrari is at an all-time low, the team has still maintained their runner-up spot in the constructors’ championship. The Italian constructor needs to find massive ground in performance against the championship leader in McLaren. However, Maranello also needs to provide Lewis Hamilton with the best possible machinery to maximize his winning chances.
