Lewis Hamilton is having a nightmare of a campaign in 2025. The seven-time world champion’s hopes of bringing glory back to Ferrari seem nothing more than a distant dream at the moment. Now, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has commented on what he calls a moment of weakness from Hamilton.

After the Hungarian GP, Lewis Hamilton was seemingly at the rock bottom. The F1 legend went on to call himself ‘absolutely useless’ for Ferrari and demanded that the team find his replacement. Even after the summer break, Hamilton had another difficult race as he crashed out from the Dutch GP in wet conditions.

Stefano Domenicali reckoned that Lewis Hamilton simply didn’t expect to have such a bad start to his Ferrari journey. The F1 CEO claimed that the statements made by the Briton in Hungary were nothing short of a moment of human weakness. Domenicali insisted that the situation was not as complicated as it might appear to Hamilton at this stage.

It’s clear that he didn’t think he would have such a difficult start to the season, considering the experience he had and what he thought he would bring to the team. I was struck by that moment of humanity when he made that statement to the press in Hungary. It was a moment of human weakness, because it is in a context that he thought was complicated, but not that complicated.

Stefano Domenicali told Gazzetta dello Sport

Lewis Hamilton did seem to make some progress at the Dutch GP before his crash. After Qualifying, the 40-year-old revealed that he made some changes which helped him improve on-track. Moreover, former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve insisted that Hamilton was actually quite upbeat even after the collision.

Lewis Hamilton needs to face ‘bad thoughts’

F1 drivers face immense pressure from inside and outside the paddock. Fans always expect a star like Lewis Hamilton to be fighting for victories, while the team expects decent results. Moreover, drivers pressure themselves to get the most out of the car as well with the hunger to win.

Stefano Domenicali hinted that the entire situation could lead to more bad thoughts in the mind of Lewis Hamilton. It will be important for the seven-time world champion to try and face these feats without getting carried away. Domenicali asserted that there’s no question regarding Hamilton’s talent. He reckoned that Ferrari needs to have a serious conversation with him that could help the F1 star understand that he’s not stuck in a dark place. Rather, it is Hamilton who needs to shine once again.

He must not let himself be carried away by bad thoughts, because he is great and he must continue. When you are faced with certain champions you don’t have to say so much. It is necessary to look into each other’s eyes and speak with the soul, with a gesture that it needs from an emotional point of view. There is no need to explain everything to him, but it is enough to make him understand that everything is not dark around him and it is he who must illuminate.

Stefano Domenicali added

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton is one of the best drivers to ever race in Formula 1. His current struggles do not bring down the rest of his career. Nevertheless, Hamilton is seemingly facing mental struggles as he feels helpless when it comes to the SF25. The Italian GP this weekend could be critical in defining the remainder of his campaign.
