Christian Horner‘s sudden exit from Red Bull Racing has sparked controversy and speculation across the F1 paddock. It is unclear why the Briton was effectively sacked by Milton Keynes. Moreover, Horner’s future remains uncertain with a few possibilities, including a potential switch to Scuderia Ferrari. However, F1 pundit Will Buxton reckons that such a move could force Lewis Hamilton to quit the team.
Lewis Hamilton joined the Scuderia earlier this year after spending over a decade with Mercedes. The seven-time world champion was glad to reunite with Fred Vasseur at Ferrari, the two had worked together during Hamilton’s junior career.
If Ferrari decide to replace Fred Vasseur with Christian Horner, it could change the situation for Lewis Hamilton, who is already struggling to perform this year. While Maranello has not shown direct interest yet, rumors have surfaced this year that Vasseur was at risk of losing his position.
Will Buxton insisted that Lewis Hamilton had a really strong bond with Fred Vasseur, built on faith and trust. This is believed to be partly the reason behind the Briton’s move to Maranello. Buxton made it clear that if Vasseur was replaced by Horner, Lewis Hamilton was likely to see himself out of the Italian team.
Lewis Hamilton adores that man and has absolute faith in Fred Vasseur. If they replaced Fred with Christian Horner, I don’t think Lewis would be a Ferrari driver for much longer.
Will Buxton on The Sports Agent podcast
While it does seem that Lewis Hamilton would not be happy to see his team boss be replaced at Ferrari, it is unlikely that Christian Horner would make such a move to begin with. BBC’s F1 presenter Jennie Gow joined in on Buxton’s discussion, pointing out that such a scenario would not happen.
Gow claimed that despite rumors surfacing that Horner could be signed by Ferrari, it doesn’t seem realistic. She reckoned that the Scuderia was not the right team for the former Red Bull team boss. On the other hand, Alpine has emerged as another option for Horner.
I know that Ferrari, and the word on the street was that Ferrari is being linked to maybe getting Christian Horner to come on board. I think, like Will said, that’s more of a stretch to believe that that would happen. It just doesn’t seem the perfect fit for Christian Horner.

Jennie Gow highlighted that Alpine Chief Flavio Briatore publicly showcased his respect for Christian Horner over the current situation, with the two sharing a strong relationship. Moreover, a move to Alpine would not require the 51-year-old to move to Italy, something he might not be willing to do
Whereas Alpine – Flavio Briatore – the link there, even looking at Instagram, Flavio has gone online and posted about Christian in a very respectful way. So do I see Christian and family moving across to Italy? Not really.
Jennie Gow added
Certainly, Christian Horner’s future remains a big talking point in the F1 paddock. While a move to Ferrari might be good for optics, it is unlikely that the 51-year-old would get the same free reign that he enjoyed at Red Bull. Alpine might present itself as a better option for the long term if Horner is assured of the extent of his decision-making power Though, it is likely that the former Red Bull boss will take some time off before returning to the grid.
