Fernando Alonso has had a tough time in the 2025 season, struggling to find any real momentum with Aston Martin.

He didn’t pick up his first points until the Spanish Grand Prix, his home race, with mechanical issues and an underperforming AMR25 slowing down his campaign from the start.

Alonso’s picked up points in seven races since then, but he’s still just 12th in the standings. He continues to finish ahead of teammate Lance Stroll more often than not but has found it difficult to get much out of this year’s car.

His frustration showed after the Mexican GP when he had to retire due to another mechanical problem. With big changes coming to F1 regulations in 2026, Alonso will be pushing for Aston Martin to make serious progress soon.

Jak Crawford says Fernando Alonso ‘not too happy’ with recent form

Aston Martin junior Jak Crawford, who is set to become the team’s reserve driver in 2026, spoke about Alonso’s struggles on Drive to Wynn. He mentioned that the mood within the team is far from positive.

“Yeah, I think they’re not… everyone from the team’s not too happy at the moment. It hasn’t been a good span of races for the team,” said Crawford.

He pointed out that some of the recent tracks haven’t favoured their car. “I think a lot of the tracks haven’t really suited the car recently. So, especially Austin and in Mexico, I don’t think really suited the car too much,” he added.

Crawford also spoke about how everyone wants to be in a better position. “It’s frustrating because everyone wants to be winning races. It’s frustrating for Fernando. It’s frustrating for Lance. It’s frustrating for everyone on the team that works really hard, of course.”

But he also noted that there are signs of forward thinking within Aston Martin as they begin preparing for next year under new regulations and aims to close out this season as strong as possible.

Fernando Alonso facing uncertain future in F1 ahead of 2026 Season

Fernando Alonso has had a tough run with Aston Martin this season, struggling to find the consistency needed to challenge near the front of the grid.

It wasn’t until his home race in Barcelona that the two-time world champion picked up his first points of the year, held back by a mix of mechanical issues and a general lack of pace from the AMR25.

Since then, he’s managed to add points in seven more races and currently sits 12th in the drivers’ standings. While he continues to outperform teammate Lance Stroll, results have been hard to come by.

The frustration was clear after the Mexican Grand Prix, where another mechanical issue forced him out of the race. Alonso is hoping Aston Martin can turn things around before new regulations come into play in 2026.

Aston Martin reserve driver Jak Crawford offers perspective on team’s struggles

Aston Martin junior Jak Crawford, set to become their reserve driver next year, shared his perspective on Alonso’s frustrations during an appearance on Drive To Wynn. He noted that it hasn’t been an easy stretch for anyone involved with the team.

“Yeah, I think they’re not… everyone from the team’s not too happy at the moment. It hasn’t been a good span of races for the team,” said Crawford.

“I think a lot of tracks haven’t really suited our car recently. Austin and Mexico were probably two examples where we struggled more than expected.”

Crawford said that “everyone wants to be winning races” but “it’s frustrating for Fernando” as well as Lance Stroll.

He also says that while attention has shifted towards next season: “there’s still a lot left on track this year worth fighting for.”
