Lando Norris has been one of the standout drivers of the 2025 season with five victories to his name and a growing reputation as a future world champion. But his dreams might have suffered a crack after a costly retirement at Dutch GP.
It was his second DNF of the season after colliding with teammate Oscar Piastri in Canada, and Norris has now admitted that his McLaren teammate could be more deserving of the title crown this season.
“If Oscar, even without a dropout, delivers a better performance than me this season, then he is justifiably world champion. It’s that simple,” Norris said. “I hope to come back to the championship on my own, but that will be difficult.”
Piastri has shown consistency and has finished in points at every race so far in the season. His reliability has allowed him to firm pressure on his rival Norris. Meanwhile, Norris has suffered the kind of setbacks that can derail his run for the championship.
Still, Norris isn’t giving up. With nine races left and more than 200 points up for grabs, the Briton remains focused on keeping himself in the fight.
“If I lose the championship because of these lost points, I’ll keep my head up and do even better next year,” Norris added. “It’s not someone’s direct fault, and even if it had been, I should just accept it and continue.”
