Lando Norris has failed to lead the drivers’ title against his teammate, Oscar Piastri, ahead of the summer break. Piastri is leading the standings with just nine points, as Norris aims to bridge the gap in the coming races. The Briton committed crucial mistakes at the beginning of the year that cost him the title lead early on in the season. As such, the 25-year-old opened up on the biggest regret he had for his performances so far this year.
Lando Norris had led the drivers’ title for a brief period before his massive mistakes on track cost him the position. Oscar Piastri has put forth a flawless performance so far, with minor errors. Still, the drivers’ title is far from over, as with just ten races to go, both McLaren drivers will surely give it their all to trump one another. The end-of-the-season battle would be highly enticing between Piastri and Norris.
Norris was questioned if he was required to give it his 100% in all the coming races to best Oscar Piastri in the championship standings and win the title. To this, the 25-year-old noted that in some races, even 95% was enough to win the race and ultimately the title. However, the Briton accepted that in a few races, he realized his mistake of giving his 100% to the race, when it wasn’t even needed.
It can be a mix. There are even some times this year where 99 percent, even 95 percent, will do fine. These are some of the things I saw in my mistakes earlier in the season, trying to perform at 100 percent more.
Lando Norris said, as reported by Planetf1
Speaking on his performances so far, Lando Norris reckoned that in a few races, even 90% of power would have helped him be on pole. As such, he felt that he didn’t need to give it his 100% in a few races. Norris declared that this was indeed his biggest regret, trying to be so good at the beginning of the season and giving it his all. The 25-year-old would now try to keep a level head on the track and give his 100% only when really required.
But also, at times, I should drive at 95% or even 90% and that’s enough to be on pole sometimes. I do regret trying to be so good at the beginning part of the season. I think now, already, I sometimes just settle for a 95 percent lap, and that’s been good enough.

The 2025 season would be extremely crucial for Lando Norris as he has a realistic shot at contending for the driver’s title. He needs to minimize errors on track and ensure that his past mistakes do not creep up during races. After racing at McLaren for over six years now, Norris reveals the things that he has improved on, particularly in the 2025 season.
Lando Norris asserted that the thing he had improved on so far was his ability to improve on his worst moments while racing. Moreover, the 25-year-old felt that he was better at improving certain struggles that he faced over the multiple sessions in a race weekend. Norris believed that he would suffer through the entire weekend without fixing the errors before, which wasn’t the case anymore.
I’ve improved on something, my ability to improve on worse moments as proof, or the ability to improve on certain struggles that you might achieve during the weekend or over a session or practice, whatever it is.
Lando Norris added
McLaren has emerged as the most dominant team on the grid in the 2025 season. Both Norris and Piastri need to minimize errors and ensure that their performances are not hindered by their own errors. The two will enjoy the summer break for now, before returning to the track for the Dutch GP. Regardless of the championship winner this season, the end-of-the-season battle would be extremely interesting for the fans and drivers alike.
