Lewis Hamilton‘s 2025 woes do not seem to end despite his giving it his all to come out of the performance slump. Hamilton was unable to fare well at the most recent Dutch GP after the summer break despite feeling positive over the weekend. The seven-time champion suffered from a DNF and walked out of the race with zero points. To make matters worse, the Briton was hit with a massive five-place grid penalty due to yellow flag violations and pitlane speed violations.

Now, Lewis Hamilton will have to serve the penalty at Ferrari’s home race at the Italian GP. The Briton is already lagging behind in the driver’s standings, and the penalty wouldn’t help him any further. As such, Hamilton opened up on the ‘hardcore’ penalty and what it means for him in his ambitions to succeed at the team’s home soil in Monza.

Lewis Hamilton drew attention to multiple questionable decisions taken by the FIA against multiple drivers and questioned how they handled the matter. For instance, Williams and Carlos Sainz used their right to review and challenged the latter’s penalty against Liam Lawson at the Dutch GP. However, Hamilton found out about the penalty after he landed back home and was pretty surprised.

I mean, I don’t know how the other drivers have felt about the decisions of the last race. I landed back home and then saw that I got this penalty and I was really, really shocked, to be honest. But I mean, it is what it is.

Lewis Hamilton told Sky Sports

Speaking on the penalty being imposed on him, Lewis Hamilton insisted that the penalty wasn’t completely ‘black and white’. The 40-year-old assured that he lifted his pedal under the yellow flag, but it wasn’t up to the FIA’s liking, as they penalized him. However, the governing body was not providing more clarification on the matter and did not take away the ‘hardcore’ penalty imposed on the seven-time champion.

It’s obviously not black and white. The fact is, if you look at the report, I did lift, but to their liking, not enough. That’s why it’s, I guess, they’re saying not more, but to get the penalty and get penalty points, it’s pretty hardcore.

Lewis Hamilton aims to ‘move forward’ at Italian GP

Following the massive penalty, Lewis Hamilton will have to work extra hard for Ferrari’s home race at the Italian GP. The Tifosi have banked massive hopes on the seven-time champion to return the team to its lost glory. Although the 40-year-old is suffering from a woeful debut year, he is still giving it his all and will stay with the team for the long run. As such, Hamilton has already shifted his focus away from the five-place penalty and to the race weekend.

Lewis Hamilton asserted that he learnt from the penalty and did not want to whine about it anymore. Moving on, Hamilton insisted that the Italian GP weekend was bound to be challenging for Ferrari. With the Qualifying being so close at the forefront, the 40-year-old accepted that getting into Q3 would already be a challenge in itself.

I learned from it and there’s no point whining about it. I just, I’ll move forward. It’s going to be challenging this weekend. Qualifying is already so close between us all. So just getting to Q3 is tough. Getting in the top five is very, very tough.

Lewis Hamilton noted

The 2025 season has definitely been full of lessons and learning for Lewis Hamilton and less of celebrations. However, the seven-time champion has learnt a lot over the year and has shifted his priority to the upcoming season now. Hence, it would be interesting to witness if the 40-year-old emerges as a dominant force under the new regulations with Ferrari.
