Lewis Hamilton rants over 'worst' soft tire stint after pitting 7 laps earlier than planned in the Chinese GP

Lewis Hamilton ‘s Chinese GP weekend has been a rollercoaster ride so far. The Brit had a Q1 exit in qualifying and started from 18th for the Grand Prix. He then gambled on a set of soft tires. However, this gamble did not pay off and was spotted ranting about the unorthodox strategy on the radio.

Lewis Hamilton had a wonderful start to the weekend as he claimed a front-row start for the sprint race, which eventually turned into a runners-up finish for the sprint. This led to fans and experts applauding the Englishman’s ability to work around the inferior machinery he had. However, his weekend flipped upside down when he got eliminated in Q1 and had to start from 18th on the grid.

The former champion was heard ranting about his tire strategy during the ongoing race.

Hamilton’s subpar performance in qualifying led the team to gamble on a set of soft tires for the race start. However, to his dismay, the compound advantage did not increase performance as he trickled down the field at the start.

This led the 39-year-old to pit a substantial seven laps earlier than he intended to. Subsequently, he was heard slamming the tires for not providing him grip on his earlier stint and called them the worst soft tires he has ever used.

Lewis Hamilton blames the W15 for being too slow

The Brit was unhappy with the soft set of tires that he began his race on but subsequently, his race trundled downwards even more. After pitting for a new set of tires, Hamilton was stuck behind Alpine‘s Esteban Ocon, which led him to claim the W15 to be too slow and brought back the not-so-fond memories of the W14.

The 39-year-old was tired of staring at the gearbox of Ocon’s A524.

I can’t even catch [Esteban Ocon], mate. This car is so slow.

Lewis Hamilton said on the radio

Hamilton was frustrated by the sight of being stuck behind the Frenchman. On the other hand, a safety car was called out for the removal of Valtteri Bottas‘ stagnant car from the track, increasing the woes of his former teammate disallowing him from making a move.

Despite his earlier rants, Hamilton looks to push through the struggles. Moreover, after the safety car was called in, the Brit was seen making moves left and right. The race is still going on and Hamilton is trying to secure eighth place.
