Lewis Hamilton‘s debut year at Ferrari has remained extremely troublesome. The Briton was expected to compete for both championships with the Prancing Horses. However, Hamilton has been unable to achieve even a podium finish in the first 12 outings. The 40-year-old is still giving it his all in hopes that Maranello figures out the issues and fixes the performance as soon as possible. Now, the seven-time champion revealed that he identified the exact cause of the problems in the SF-25 challenger.
Lewis Hamilton started the season off with great hopes in terms of performance following a decent outing in the pre-season test. The Briton even achieved a sprint race victory in the second round in China. However, since then, the 40-year-old hasn’t bounced back from the problems and scored good enough results. Hamilton even accepted the difficult phase of the Italian constructor and how the issues caused him to miss his former team, Mercedes.
Now, Lewis Hamilton asserted that he and his teammate Charles Leclerc spent extended amounts of time in the factory and worked on the issues in the car. Hamilton pointed out that both of them identified the exact cause of trouble in the SF-25. As such, it is upto Ferrari and the engineers now to fix the issues immediately and achieve a turnaround in performance.
I just got back from a debrief in which we talked about our problems and both Charles and I identified exactly what the problem is.
Lewis Hamilton said, as reported by Formulapassion.it
Previously, Hamilton had already revealed that he started looking at the 2026 season and coming up with a race winning car then. Speaking on the SF-25, the Briton reckoned that some parts of the car were good enough to be kept around. However, there were many aspects of the chassis that needed to be changed, as Ferrari would now rush into integrating the upgrades in the car.
I thought that some parts of the SF-25 I would like to keep, but others need to be changed to be higher and we are working on this.
Lewis Hamilton added
Ferrari is the most iconic team in Formula 1 that has went through some big periods of upheaval since it’s inception in 1950. Now might be a time for change yet again, as the Scuderia struggles to get back to it’s former glory. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if Lewis Hamilton becomes the driver who calls for some crucial changes to the Italian squad.
Now, Lewis Hamilton hinted that there was a huge restructuring work ongoing within the team. Ferrari aimed to take the team to the top of the championship. Owing to the alleged changes to Maranello, Hamilton hopes to compete for both championships as soon as the 2026 season. The Briton asserted that the team’s priority lay in competing with McLaren or whichever team dominated the upcoming regulations.
In the background, a huge restructuring work is underway to take this team where we want it to be. We hope that next year we will be able to compete with McLaren.
Lewis Hamilton noted
Ferrari’s performance in recent years has been nothing short of a dissapointment. Even though the team is fighting for race wins occasionally, it is nowhere near to what Lewis Hamilton expected. The Briton might start to lose hope in the team as Charles Leclerc has already flipped out on some occasions. Now, time will tell if the Italian constructor resurrects from the desperate performance slump and bounce back.
