Martin Brundle Exposes Christian Horner’s ‘Toto Wolff-Ish Demand’ for F1 return

Christian Horner had remained somewhat relevant in the F1 paddock despite being brutally axed by Red Bull after serving them for two decades. The Briton had a great on-track rivalry with Mercedes’ Toto Wolff, and the two also shared some heated moments on the track. However, despite a disappointing end to his professional career, Martin Brundle ponders over Horner’s demands to return to a leadership position in any team.

Christian Horner was rumored to join multiple constructors following his Red Bull exit. Alpine and Ferrari seemed to be the prime candidates that the Briton looked to potentially join. However, it has been over three months since the Briton’s exit from the sport, and he hasn’t announced a return yet. As such, Martin Brundle revealed what Horner demanded in order to join any particular team on the grid.

Martin Brundle insisted that Christian Horner would only come back to the sport if he had skin in the game, meaning that he wanted utter importance wherever he joined. Further, he wanted stakes in the team he led, rather than simply being a managing authority of a constructor, like he did at Red Bull.

He made it absolutely clear to me when I spoke to him that he will only come back if he’s got a skin in the game, if he’s got a share of the team and is building something, rather than being a manager as he was with Red Bull.

Martin Brundle told Sky Sports F1.

Brundle continued that Christian Horner was unable to get any stakes in Red Bull, and he probably did not like that and which led to his ultimate firing from the team. As such, Horner was now looking at joining a team and leading it just like Toto Wolff did, as the latter held one-third stake of Mercedes. The 66-year-old accepted that it wasn’t surprising to witness the fired Team Principal seeing his available option in teams to join.

He couldn’t get any shareholding in that. Toto Wolff is a good example of how to do that as a one-third shareholder in Mercedes. I’m not surprised Christian is knocking on doors, seeing what is available out there. There are not many available doors to knock on, in that respect.

Martin Brundle added.

Martin Brundle ‘sure’ about Christian Horner considering MotoGP

Christian Horner definitely wouldn’t enjoy a lot of time away from the track, as he has a great motorsport bug in him. While a return to F1 might not be possible, Martin Brundle is sure that the Briton would definitely consider joining MotoGP if it came to that. F1’s commercial rights holder, Liberty Media, has already bought out the media rights to the two-wheeler category, and this could help Horner greatly.

Martin Brundle raised surety about Christian Horner thinking about joining MotoGP, more so because of its undertaking by Liberty Media. Regardless, Brundle reckoned that Horner’s primary goal would definitely be an F1 return. However, if it ever came to the Briton wanting to join MotoGP, he would have a lot of partners and sponsors ready to join him in the two-wheeler category.

I’m sure he’ll be thinking about MotoGP as well, That’s just been taken over by the same people who own F1, and it will grow. But I imagine his focus will remain on F1 to see where he can get back in. I’m sure there will be partners, sponsors and other people who might want to join Christian on that journey.

Martin Brundle noted.

For now, Christian Horner is likely spending some much-needed off-track time. The Briton worked tirelessly in the pinnacle of motorsport for over 20 years and would definitely appreciate some downtime. However, many people are already missing the 51-year-old, especially his arch-nemesis Toto Wolff, as he doesn’t feel the same on the grid without the ‘villain’.
