Rookie New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo and quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced themselves to a national audience by earning an impressive 34-17 win over the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 9.
Specifically, Skattebo rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns in that Week 6 victory. While speaking with reporters on Thursday, he suggested he hopes the Denver Broncos (4-2) are planning to keep him from having yet another stellar outing on Sunday.
"I think it’s started," Skattebo said about defenses focusing on him during game-planning meetings, per the New York Post's Dan Martin. "You can plan for it, but there’s other people on the other team. … If people want to bring nine [defenders] in the box, then someone’s got to step up. That’s really about it."
Presumably, that "someone" is Dart. The 2025 first-round draft pick looked like a veteran as he completed 17-of-25 passes for 195 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the win over Philadelphia. Dart also added 58 rushing yards and a score on the ground as the Giants improved to 2-4 on the season.
"They game-plan just like we game-plan," Skattebo added about opposing teams. "If people start game-planning for me, there’s gonna be ways to get the ball to other people."
Ever since the Giants named Dart the starter after Week 3, numerous players have touched upon how he and Skattebo have given "juice" to a team that was 0-3. Center Austin Schlottmann noted how he and other members of the Big Blue offensive line look forward to their in-game assignments knowing that Dart and Skattebo are on the field.
"It’s fun to block for guys that run the way Dart and [Skattebo] do," Schlottmann explained. "They have that will to win and competitiveness. You feel that, and you feed off of it. We had a ton of time together in training camp."
As of Friday morning, ESPN BET had the Giants as 7.5-point underdogs against the Broncos. For what it's worth, Dart and Co. were well aware leading up to the "Thursday Night Football" game versus the Eagles that the Giants were betting underdogs by more than a touchdown.
