Max Verstappen‘s problems don’t seem to end this season. The reigning world champion is virtually out of the title fight against the two McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. At the Dutch GP, the local hero managed to clinch a second-place finish. Yet, Verstappen was not exactly happy after the race.

Red Bull lacked pace compared to McLaren for yet another weekend. Nevertheless, Max Verstappen pushed himself to the limit to grab a P3 slot in Qualifying. The Dutchman went elbows out at the race start to overtake Lando Norris and almost spun out. However, an incredible save kept him on-track. Though, Verstappen didn’t have the speed to stay ahead of Norris, the Briton was forced to retire the car after a technical failure. Thus, the 27-year-old finished just behind race winner Oscar Piastri.

After the end of the race, Max Verstappen bluntly stated that the Red Bull RB21 was simply as quick as he needed the car to be. The four-time world champion pointed out that he had to manage a lot in the corners compared to rival teams who could almost go flat out in turns 7 and 8. On the other hand, Verstappen struggled to get grip. Verstappen gave an alarming verdict, stating that be it the car, the race or even the season, nothing is good for Red Bull this time around.

Our car is just not quick enough. I also have to save a lot in the quick corners while the other teams can go much quicker through T7/T8. And I still have no grip. That is not good. This car, this season, in the race, is just not good.

Max Verstappen declares things at Red Bull ‘not in order’

The Dutch GP was a tricky race for all drivers. The changeable conditions posed a challenge as drivers tried to stay on the track on slick tires. Lewis Hamilton fell victim to the slippery conditions and crashed out during the race. However, as drivers remained on slicks, tire strategy became critical. With Max Verstappen being the sole driver who decided not to go for the hard tires.

The reigning world champion started the race on soft tires. When the pit window opened, Max Verstappen opted for the mediums instead of the hard compound used by the rest of the grid. Though, the multiple Safety Cars allowed Verstappen to make it till the end of the race.

The Red Bull star admitted that he simply lacked grip on the hard tires when he tried them out during Friday practice. This made him avoid the compound entirely during the race. Max Verstappen asserted that the struggles on the compound proved that things were not in order within the Red Bull garage.

Because on Friday the hard tire just felt horrible, 0 grip, no mechanical grip. Everyone can drive on it, apart from us. So that’s shows we just don’t have some things in order.

Max Verstappen stated

Certainly, Max Verstappen and Red Bull have a lot of things to discuss over the Dutch GP. The 27-year-old just does not have the pace to even hold position after overtaking a McLaren. While Verstappen is ahead of the rest of the grid, he is not someone who enjoys finishing second on the grid. Unfortunately, it seems that the Dutchman can do nothing but hope for a quick end to this season.
