Red Bull started the ground-effect era in 2022 as the most dominant team on the grid, as Max Verstappen maximized results with the team. The 2023 season was one of the greatest ever recorded in Formula 1 for a team and driver, as Verstappen won 19 of the 23 races that year. However, this year has been a stark difference to their performances in the past, as the reigning world champion gave his verdict on the RB21 and its characteristics.
Max Verstappen has remained a common critic of Red Bull’s RB21 chassis and how the team expected more out of the car this year. The Dutchman even claimed that his results do not matter anymore, as his championship chances seem to be close to none. Moreover, Verstappen had recently claimed that he might not win an F1 title in his career ever again, and he was fine with it.
However, the 2025 season has been nothing short of a disaster for Red Bull and Max Verstappen, as they cannot seem to come out of the performance slump. Even after a dominant victory at the Italian GP and shattering many records, Verstappen was still wary of his chances to succeed in the remainder of the year. Now, Verstappen declared the differences between 2023’s RB19 and the current RB21.
Max Verstappen recalled that in 2023, Red Bull had the most dominant car in RB19, allowing him to shatter multiple world records. However, the RB21 of the 2025 season was nothing short of being a ‘monster’ that caused Verstappen multiple problems in emerging victorious on the track. Regardless, the Dutchman is doing the most with the machinery available to him and already making the rivals look silly.
In 2023 we still had the most dominant car, but we have turned it into a monster.

Max Verstappen drove one of the greatest races at the Italian GP and achieved a stellar record-breaking race win, even with the RB21. Despite the positive results, Verstappen wasn’t too confident of his chances to succeed in the coming races this year. The Dutchman still believes that there will be a couple of races this season where he could have glimpses of positive performances.
Speaking on his chances to succeed in the coming season, Max Verstappen pointed out that there were bound to be races out of the eight remaining races this year where he would have a good chance to win. Regardless, it did not mean that Red Bull completely turned the season around with their challenger. However, the reigning world champion insisted that the team needed to be successful at the Italian weekend, and they indeed were.
There will probably be be a couple of circuits where we have a good chance, but it’s not like we’ve completely turned the car around and now will be leading the pack. We needed to be succesful this weekend, and we were.

The 2025 season has been extremely difficult for Max Verstappen, even though he has achieved three impressive victories this year. Following the Italian GP win, Verstappen is still 94 points adrift of the championship lead to Oscar Piastri. As such, it seems difficult for the reigning world champion to return to the top, but anything can happen in the remainder of the season.
