Formula 1 will take the grand circus to the Mexican streets now, with the Mexico GP up next. Max Verstappen remains the favorite to emerge victorious in the race as he boasts the most wins on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.

Moreover, Red Bull has achieved a great turnaround in performance, which strengthens the Dutchman’s winning chances. However, Verstappen has made a shocking confession about the team’s weakness at the upcoming Mexican weekend.

Max Verstappen‘s start to the weekend has been great as he topped the FP2 session after logging the fastest lap out of the bunch in one hour. Moreover, Red Bull Challenger is performing much better now and responding well to Verstappen’s inputs. The team has also brought in multiple upgrades to the Mexico GP in hopes of helping the Dutchman in his championship ambitions.

Ahead of the race weekend, Max Verstappen cast doubts on his chances of succeeding in Mexico and keeping up with his winning pace. Verstappen insisted that in the short run, using the soft compound, the team managed to achieve a great lap. However, everything apart from this stint was bad, and the Dutchman couldn’t really achieve any notable lap times and results.

Max Verstappen reckoned that the medium short run wasn’t great, which was definitely a cause of concern for the team. The Dutchman added that the biggest concern was the long run, which would definitely give him trouble in the main race, where the team was already struggling. As such, this was the biggest concern for Milton Keynes ahead of the Mexico GP race.

The short run on the soft, we managed to do a good lap, The rest, everything else was pretty bad. The medium short run was not great, and the big problem is the long runs, where we seem to struggle a lot. So that is, of course, a big concern for the race.

Max Verstappen said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Max Verstappen claims he was ‘nowhere’ in the practice session

Even though Max Verstappen topped the FP2 session and was able to achieve great insight into the car, he still wasn’t satisfied at all after the session. The 27-year-old was spotted being frustrated on the team radio and criticizing the performance of the car.

At this point in the championship, it would certainly be crushing for the reigning world champion if he fails to achieve great results because of poor challenger performance.

During the practice session, Max Verstappen labeled the RB21 challenger’s performance as terrible, as it was like driving on ice. Later, even the Dutchman was unaware of the reason behind the car’s failure in performance, as the balance wasn’t even off on track. The car had no grip, which was definitely a bigger concern for the constructor amid their championship ambitions.

It’s terrible, I have no grip, it’s like driving on ice. I don’t know yet. The balance wasn’t even off. It was just no grip – that is the bigger concern. As soon as you go in a sustainable run, tyres are going hot. We were nowhere. So that’s a tough one to sort out as well.

Max Verstappen noted.

The 2025 season has been extremely exciting up until this point. Henceforth, the championship battle will continue to cook between the leaders. As long as Max Verstappen is mathematically in contention, he will give it his all and hope to achieve his coveted driver’s title. For now, Verstappen will aim to finish the Mexican GP on the best possible note despite the apparent difficulties.
