Max Verstappen Exposes the ‘Only Mistake’ He made in 2025

Max Verstappen has achieved a great turnaround in performance and has a realistic shot at contending for the driver’s title in the 2025 season. Verstappen lost drastic performance mid-way through the season and fell desperately behind in the pecking order.

Now, as the Dutchman’s winning chances get slim after Lando Norris’ consecutive race wins, he recalls the only mistake he believes he made this year that cost him heavily in his championship ambitions.

Midway through the 2025 season, Red Bull’s performance issues were so drastic that Max Verstappen claimed that his results did not matter anymore. Many people believed that the championship title definitely couldn’t be won by Verstappen.

However, a streak of dominant results after the summer break has caused the Dutchman to now trail the championship lead by just 49 points. Still, even the reigning world champion is susceptible to errors, as he recalled one specific error from the Spanish GP.

The Spanish GP was certainly one of the more questionable outings from Max Verstappen as he lost his cool in that race back then. Many people believed that the Dutchman intentionally crashed into George Russell after the safety car race restarts and was hit with a brutal penalty that caused him to finish in only P10. Verstappen accepted that moment in Barcelona, and the entire incident was not good.

Max Verstappen noted that he cared a lot and hence lashed out on track and on the team radio, when he simply should’ve let the incident go and dealt with it later. The Dutchman asserted that he got angry with himself, more so as he gave only 80% in the race and not fully 100%. Verstappen accepted that it was a mistake from his end and he ensured that such moments won’t happen again.

The only point of criticism is obviously Barcelona. That move itself and the entire incident was not good, but that’s also because I care a lot. I could have thought, ‘this car isn’t working anyway, so I let it go.’ I can’t accept stepping out of the car and knowing that I didn’t give everything. Then I get angry with myself, so I can’t drive at 80%. That was a mistake from my side, and of course I learn from it, Those moments won’t happen again next year.

Max Verstappen said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Max Verstappen reveals ‘positives’ from the 2025 season despite massive challenges

Max Verstappen revealed that after the culmination of the 2025 season, he would look back and question where he could have maximized his result even more and pushed the extra mile. However, he firmly believes that with the material he had, he maximized a lot already throughout the season. Hence, it was a positive, according to him.

Further, Max Verstappen clarified that it was difficult to judge the entire season because of the struggles faced in terms of performance. The car wasn’t competitive enough on multiple occasions, but still, Verstappen was delighted with his performance this season and did not regret it.

Every season you try to look back and think ‘where did I leave something on the table’ or ‘where could I have been a bit more consistent?’ But with the material I had, I think I’ve maximised a lot throughout the season. That’s a positive. From the outside, it’s sometimes hard to judge these things based on how competitive a car is, but I’m happy with my season.

Max Verstappen added.

The 2025 season still isn’t over, and Max Verstappen cannot be completely counted out of the chances to still win the driver’s title this year. The Dutchman is currently 49 points adrift of the title lead. Hence, with three races to go, anything can happen in the final races, and it would certainly be one of the greatest comebacks in F1 if Verstappen manages to win the title now.
