Max Verstappen has gone viral during Formula 1’s summer break — not for anything on track, but for a hilarious golf cart stunt that left his partner, Kelly Piquet, screaming.

In a video shared by Porsche Formula E driver Antonie Félix da Costa, Verstappen can be seen behind the wheel of a golf cart in Italy with Piquet and her young daughter Penelope riding along.

True to form, the Dutchman couldn’t resist turning the drive into a mini-race. At one point, he veered off the path to pull off an overtak e, leaving Piquet startled and screaming as others burst into laughter.

The clip quickly spread across social media, showing a lighter side of the four-time world champion as he enjoyed downtime with family and friends before the season restarts at Zandvoort next weekend.

It has been an unusual season for Verstappen, who currently trails championship leader Oscar Piastri by 97 points. Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko recently admitted the Dutchman is out of the 2025 title fight — a stark contrast to his years of dominance. Still, Verstappen has maintained good spirits, using the summer break to rest mentally and physically.

Speaking during the Hungarian Grand Prix before the break, Verstappen confirmed he will remain with Red Bull into the 2026 season, when new engine regulations come into effect. His commitment is a major boost for the Milton Keynes team, which continues to face scrutiny over its second seat.

For Verstappen, though, the break has been about more than racing politics. Alongside Italy, he has spent time on the golf course with friends and embraced the rare chance to unwind. That balance between force competitor and playful personality is what keeps fans captivated — and the viral golf cart video perfectly captured that duality.

As Formula 1 prepares to return at the Dutch Grand Prix, Verstappen will be back in front of his home fans, eager to deliver a strong result even if the championship looks out of reach. For now, though, the internet is enjoying a lighter side of the reigning star: a driver who can make even a golf cart feel like a Grand Prix.
