Max Verstappen has never been one to sugarcoat his answers, but when the four-time F1 world champion was asked about how fatherhood has changed him off track, his response revealed a softer, more reflective side rarely seen during the intensity of a championship fight.
Speaking candidly, Verstappen admitted that becoming a father has shifted his perspective, not just on racing, but on how he manages his life away from teh paddock.
“A bit more relaxed,” Verstappen said. “It’s just that it’s more important to spend time with family, stay home as long as possible and really try to manage your time better with that.”
For a driver whose carer has been defined by relentless focus and competitive fire, the change is significant.
Verstappen acknowledged that while achievements still matter, they no longer define everything.
“Of course, achievements are important in life,” he explained. “But the most important thing is to be happy privately, and seeing the little one grow up.”
The comment reflects a growing trend among elite athletes who, after reaching the pinnacle of their profession, begin to measure success differently. For Verstappen, the joy of watching his child grow up has added a grounding influence that balances the pressure of F1.
“And that’s nice,” he added. “I really do enjoy that.”
Those close to the Red Bull driver have often spoken about his intense focus during race weekends, but Verstappen’s own words suggest fatherhood has helped him detach when the helmet comes off.

Managing time more carefully, staying home longer between races, and prioritising family moments have become central to his routine. It’s a contrast to the younger Verstappen who lived almost entirely inside the F1 bubble.
That balance may also explain his calm demeanor during the closing stages of the 2025 season, even as the championship battle went down to the wire.
