Max Verstappen has firmly dismissed swirling rumors that he might step away from F1 at the end of the current season.

The reigning World Champion addressed speculation ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend, stating unequivocally that he intends to stay in the sport through 2028.

“That’s not true at all. There’s no question of that,” Verstappen said when asked about the sabbatical chatter. “My intention is to at least continue in Formula 1 until 2028.”

Talk of Verstappen considering time away from the sport had picked up after internal turbulence within the team. The speculation intensified after reports of the uncertain future of key team figures.

However, Verstappen’s latest comments signal his ongoing commitment to the team and the sport.

“It’s clear that I don’t like everything in this environment, but I do like working with the people around me and racing itself,” he added. “Although a fourth place like in Miami is not what I do it for… it’s still better than finishing last.”

Verstappen’s remarks offer relief to fans who feared that the pressure of the F1 circus might drive the Dutchman into an early break.

At just 27, and with a contract that runs through 2028, Verstappen seems far from done. While he remains candid about the downsides of the sport’s politics and constant scrutiny, his love for competition still burns.

With Imola ahead, Verstappen’s focus is locked in. And for now, so is his future on the grid.
