Max Verstappen on Sunday won the Bahrain Grand Prix to capture his first victory of the 2026 season. The win took place at Singapore’s Sepang Circuit, and marked Verstappen’s fourth consecutive podium finish in 2026. Kimi Antonelli finished second in the race.
Despite trailing Antonelli with only a few laps remaining, George Russell was forced to retire from the race due to a power unit failure. As a result, Antonelli now holds a comfortable 84-point lead in the drivers’ standings with seven races remaining.
Ferrari was able to use two safety cares to regain several positions, which resulted in a P3 and P4 finish for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, respectively.
Behind the two Ferrari drivers was Isack Hadjar who struggled throughout the race, but was able to finish with a respectable P5 finish.
In somewhat of a surprise, Fernando Alonso finished in P8 — his best result of this season — despite Aston Martin’s year-long struggle with pace and reliability.
Next up is the Singapore Grand Prix. The final race of three consecutive race weekends. All teams outside of Mercedes will continue to make adjustments as the battle for second and third place in the drivers’ and constructors’ championship remain wide open.
