Mercedes becomes the first-ever F1 team to cross $500 million turnover despite performance slump since 2022
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

Mercedes has continued to struggle throughout Formula 1’s ground-effect era. The Silver Arrows fell behind the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari in 2022 after dominating the sport for almost a decade. Brackley has scored only one race win in the last two years. Regardless of the recent performance drought, Mercedes’ finances continue to grow.

According to Mercedes’ latest filings, the team declared a turnover of £546.5 Million (Approximately $680 Million) despite the team’s lackluster performance. The German manufacturer’s turnover was $161 Million more than arch-rival Red Bull. Hence, Mercedes becomes the first team to ever exceed half a Billion dollars in terms of turnover.

While the performance records of Mercedes might be falling tremendously, the team has maintained a good profit. Brackley reported that the profits dropped slightly from the previous time to $83.8 Million from $89.7 Million. However, the reason for this was the increase in the number of machinery costs and the number of staff employed.

Mercedes’ on-track coverage fell in 2023

Mercedes’ performance was one of the major reasons for the team’s decline in popularity recently. Multiple teams on the grid have scored much better results than Brackley. Hence, Mercedes’ television coverage dropped an insignificant amount. The Silver Arrows’ on-track coverage in 2023 was 14.7% of the total footage.

However, regardless of Mercedes’ degrading performance, the social media pages of the constructor were much better. The followers of the page on multiple platforms showcased a cumulative increase of 36 Million followers. Hence, Brackley just needs to return back to their winning ways to collect back all the lost television coverage in recent times.

Mercedes has been constantly upgrading the disappointing W15 challenger to get some performance. Brackley’s numbers have stayed strong in terms of monetary benefits despite the issues, hence the team doesn’t have it all wrong. Mercedes aims to score a podium finish soon and return back to their winning ways to help Lewis Hamilton end his season on a high.
