Nicholas Hamilton Opens Up on Life as Lewis Hamilton’s Brother

Nicolas Hamilton says racing has been part of his life since birth. With his brother Lewis already competing when he was a child, Nicolas recalls spending his earliest years trackside.

“My bigger brother is seven years older than me, so he was just starting into motorsport as soon as I was born,” he said. “I was at a racetrack from day one, sitting on my mum’s lap, watching go-karts go round, and I wanted to do that. I just never had the opportunity, and at the same time, I was struggling just to walk.”

Life With Cerebral Palsy

Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age, Nicolas faced challenges that made even walking difficult. But instead of giving up on motorsport, he found a way in.

His determination eventually led him to the British Touring Car Championship, where he continues to inspire with his grit on track.

Balancing Family Pride and His Own Career

Asked what makes him most proud, Nicolas said: “Winning all the championships. I’m Lewis’s number one fan. But it is hard to be related to arguably the best human being to have even sat behind the steering wheel of a race car and have your own path.”

He credits his parents with instilling resilience: “They taught me that I’ve got to keep pushing regardless.” That persistence has become the hallmark of his career — and his story resonates far beyond racing.

Lewis Hamilton’s Proud Message to His Brother

A couple of months back, Lewis Hamilton posted a wholesome story on Instagram celebrating his brother’s return to the track.

“My brother is back racing! Go give him some love,” Lewis wrote. His brother had been struggling with mobility due to tightness and potential aging but he said that he was grateful to be walking in the first place.

“Be proud of your disability whether you’re able to walk or not. Whatever limitations of movement you have, move with pride,” Nicolas said.
