Oscar Piastri Roasts Nico Hulkenberg Over 15-Year Wait for F1 Podium

Nico Hulkenberg waited 15 long years to return to a F1 podium but when it finally happened at the 2025 British GP, it came with a twist neither he nor fans expected: a trophy made of LEGO.

After finishing a brilliant third at Silverstone in chaotic mixed conditions, Hulkenberg was all smiles in the post-race press conference. That’s when Oscar Piastri, who finished second, couldn’t resist delivering a cheeky jab.

“How does it feel to wait 15 years for a podium and get a trophy made out of LEGO?” Piastri asked, cracking up the room.

Hulkenberg took it in stride with the perfect comeback. “My daughter can play with it!! A bit of silver or gold would have been nice too. I won’t complain!”

It was a light-hearted exchange that captured the joyful spirit of the day. For Hulkenber, the podium was especially sweet. The German driver had been agonizingly close so many times in his career, only to be thwarted by bad luck or unreliable machinery.

But on a day when strategy and flawless execution mattered most, he and his team nailed every call and finally reaped the reward.

Hulkenberg admitted he was “in denial” until his last pit stop, only believing it was real when he’d built enough of a gap to Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton. “I was thinking he’s going to give it all in front of his home crowd. Sorry guys, but it’s also my day,” he said with a grin.

The LEGO trophy may not have been made of silver or gold, but it will undoubtedly hold priceless memories for hulkenberg — and a pretty fun toy for his daughter too.
