Max Verstappen‘s father, Jos Verstappen and Christian Horner are not the best of mates. Tensions between the two have continued ever since the Red Bull boss was first accused of inappropriate behavior in 2024. While Horner came out scot-free of the allegations, his relationship with Jos Verstappen never improved. Now, former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has claimed that the two were at odds yet again after the British GP.

Max Verstappen had an impressive start to the Silverstone weekend as he took a surprise pole position. Unfortunately, the Dutchman’s struggles reappeared during the race. Verstappen quickly lost the lead to Oscar Piastri and things only went downhill from there.

Jos Verstappen has been vocal over Red Bull’s tumultuous state for months now. The former F1 driver believes that Christian Horner‘s leadership brought the team to the verge of falling apart. There have even been rumors that Verstappen’s camp wants Horner gone from Milton Keynes soon. Though, the reigning world champion has always tried to avoid such drama.

Ralf Schumacher revealed that after the British GP, he saw Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen engaged in an argument in Red Bull’s press office. The German claimed that Red Bull’s press officer was also involved in this discussion, perhaps trying to cool things down between the two. Moreover, Schumacher asserted that the senior Verstappen was visibly displeased with the situation.

There was another argument or a heated exchange, at least visually and verbally between Jos Verstappen, Christian Horner, and the press officer. You could see that Jos was anything but happy with the situation.

Ralf Schumacher hits out at Christian Horner’s leadership

Horner has been leading Red Bull Racing since the energy drinks giant entered Formula 1 in 2005 after acquiring Jaguar’s failing team. Over the years, the Briton helped Milton Keynes achieve massive success with eight drivers’ titles and six teams’ championships. However, since last year, the team has been in a state of turmoil. Big names such as aero genius Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley have left Red Bull to join rivals, while, Horner has tried to gain more control within the squad.

Ralf Schumacher reckoned that he understood Jos Verstappen’s anger. The German pointed out that Christian Horner is not the easiest person to deal with. Moreover, Schumacher pointed out that Horner has failed to keep his team intact in this difficult period, making things even harder. The Red Bull team boss is also infamous for his inability to take criticism, something that has led to Ralf Schumacher and his broadcast team being banned from talking to him.

But I understand it too. For me, Christian Horner is also a bit of a difficult person. I have to say that. He just failed to keep the team together well… he can’t really deal with criticism. We are, or I am, now, on a so-called black list, so he no longer talks to us or with me and such.

Jos Verstappen might not the only one who feels Christian Horner is only making things worse for Red Bull. The Austrian team has continued to fall behind rivals this year, with Max Verstappen struggling to compete for race victories. The Dutchman is running out of time to stay in contention for the world title. If things do not improve, the reigning world champion might be forced to look elsewhere, with Mercedes rumors already surfacing in the paddock.
