McLaren has put forth a highly dominant performance in the 2025 season, especially with their two drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The Aussie is leading the title right now with a 22-point lead over Norris and a 63-point lead over Max Verstappen. Although Verstappen seemed to be on the back foot for the majority of the season, he has shockingly come back in the mix. As such, Zak Brown laid out his demands from the Woking-based outfit amid their driver’s title charge.
McLaren has already won their second consecutive driver’s title with six races remaining in the 2025 season. Oscar Piastri had a great lead in the title, but recent circumstances have caused the standings to close up at the forefront. Now, Max Verstappen will give it his all to close down the 63-point gap and contend for his fifth consecutive title. Moreover, Lando Norris is not making life any easier for Piastri in the title charge.
Zak Brown pondered over the title fight down the season. He accepted that he and McLaren would love to have the title fight come down to only the two drivers in Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. But Max Verstappen was still very much in contention for the drivers’ title, and it would be too soon to write off his chances.
Brown revealed that McLaren had to remain focused and humble in their approach for the driver’s title. The Englishman asserted that the team would keep doing what they’re doing and not change their methods. The 53-year-old insisted that the Woking outfit wouldn’t change their approach just because they had won the constructors’ title and could relax about the driver’s title.
While we’d like it to solely come down to our two guys, Max is still very much in the game. I think what has been key is that the team have remained so focused but also very humble, So, we’re just going to keep doing what we’re doing. Our strategy isn’t going to change because we’ve won the Constructors’, we’re going to approach the remaining race weekends in the same way we’ve approached every one before it.
Zak Brown told mcLaren.com.
McLaren couldn’t contend for the driver’s title in the 2024 season as Lando Norris couldn’t close down the gap to Max Verstappen in the lead. The team still emerged victorious in the constructors’ championship the previous year, but couldn’t quite do so in the driver’s title. As such, the team is definitely desperate for a driver’s title win, as they haven’t won one since Lewis Hamilton in 2008 lifted the trophy.
After achieving success now, Zak Brown revealed that McLaren still wasn’t satisfied and wanted more. He noted that the team was in Formula 1 to win races and championships, and that is all they wanted to do. As such, Brown declared that the team couldn’t be any hungrier than this to achieve a dual title win in the 2025 season with their drivers.
That’s what we’re here to do: win races and win Championships. And we couldn’t be hungrier.
Zak Brown noted.
The 2025 season has been great for McLaren as a team. They have been capable of building an extremely dominant chassis and were untouched in terms of pace for the majority of the season. However, the battle has now come close between the leaders of the pack, and they are looking at an interesting battle ahead. Time will tell if either Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris manages to lift the title or if Max Verstappen surprisingly, swoops in and emerges victorious in the title battle.
