An Amazon Original, this anime series is exclusive to Prime Video. It’s set during the Edo period and follows a so-called immortal man, Manji, the Slayer of Hundreds. He’s recruited as a bodyguard by a young girl called Rin, who’s on a quest to avenge the death of her parents. Together, the two strike up an unlikely bond as they team up to hunt down powerful swordmasters.
A political drama set during the time of Japan's Warring States (1467 to 1567). It sees Lord Daigo Kagemitsu make a pact with demons to ensure the prosperity of his lands - in return for his unborn son. As a result, his child is born malformed and sent down a river. Years later, the mysterious Hyakkimaru arrives on the scene, with blades for arms and eyes that can see monsters. Could it possibly be related to that whole demon pact thing?
This feature-length 2007 anime sci-fi film spins off of the legendary Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series. It’s got a reputation for being impenetrable, and for good reason, seeing as the series started way back in 1995, but this film’s story is satisfying as a standalone piece. Set in future Tokyo following a planetary catastrophe, we follow a boy recruited to pilot a giant mecha known as an Eva unit.
Ichiro may look like an old man, but he’s really a deadly robot, turned into a mechanical weapon of war when a UFO crashes into him. That solves his terminal cancer problem, but he has another: a high school student named Hiro Shishigami, who received the exact same powers after his own UFO run-in. Unfortunately, Hiro is using his powers for evil, which Ichiro needs to put a stop to.
An alternate history anime series set during the industrial revolution. Instead of child labor and pollution being the threat here though, its the sudden emergence of undead monsters who can only be killed by piercing their hearts. Also, if you get bitten by one, you turn into one. Survivors barricade themselves inside fortress and travel between them in steam locomotives.
