Abdul Carter Drops Cryptic Message Following Titans’ Major Announcement

The Tennessee Titans currently control their own destiny heading into April's NFL Draft, holding the No. 1 overall pick, which gives them a range of options and directions they could pursue.

One player on the board, however, has been adamant about wanting—and deserving—that selection: Penn State Nittany Lions star pass rusher Abdul Carter. Arguably the best defensive player in the country last season, Carter played a pivotal role in leading the Nittany Lions to a College Football Playoff semifinals appearance.

Carter made waves on Friday after posting a cryptic message on X, following the Titans' announcement that they were releasing star veteran pass rusher Harold Landry III. Landry has been a key figure in Tennessee's defense since being drafted by the organization in 2018.

The Penn State star's message consisted of two simple yet telling emojis: a smiley face and the No. 1 hand signal.

The Titans need upgrades at several key positions, but securing a premier pass rusher is essential in today’s NFL. Teams must be able to apply pressure on opposing quarterbacks, and that’s exactly what Abdul Carter brings to the table.

Over the course of his three-year collegiate career, Carter recorded 168 tackles, 41 tackles for loss, and 23.0 sacks. Last season, he tallied 68 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 12.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

His playmaking ability and overall impact on the defensive side of the ball rank near the top of any player in this draft class. Carter has made it clear that he believes he’s the best player available.

"I feel like I'm the best player in the country," Carter said during the NFL combine. "And the best player should be selected No. 1."
