Adult Swim has announced a host of new shows hitting the network soon. The new shows were revealed during WB Animation's panel at the Annecy Film Festival, where the company also released the first trailer for the animated Watchmen movies.
Here are the new Adult Swim shows in production:
The show is created by Adele “Supreme” Williams, following three best friends and their antics in South Central LA in 2102. As the pilot episode implies, this show will have episodes roughly 15 minutes long.
Ha Ha You Clowns, the Adult Swim shorts SMALLS show, has been picked up for a full season. It follows three brothers who embark on various adventures with their father in the wake of their mother's passing. The surreal comedy show is written by Joe Cappa.
Get Jiro is based on the DC/Vertigo graphic novels by Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose. The 30-minute show is set in a future LA where master chefs rule the town. Jiro, a sushi master with a mysterious past, enters the culinary war with the show following his exploits. Get Jiro is created by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka and is produced by WB Animation.
It seems like every other week a new superhero show is announced. Following Netflix's Supacell, Adult Swim's Super Mutant Magic Academy is a high-school comedy series with both humans and mutants in the student body. The show follows the adventures at the academy through the eyes of Marsha, a new transfer student.
“For two decades, Adult Swim has pushed the boundaries of animation, repeatedly surprised its audience and launched and grown careers – and we’re not that interested in stopping,” said Michael Ouweleen, president, Adult Swim. “With Adult Swim expanding its global reach even further as Max rolls out across Europe, Annecy is the perfect platform to underscore Adult Swim’s dominance in adult animation.”
Besides the new shows, Adult Swim also held a premiere for “Common Side Effects”, a new show created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely. The show follows two former high-school lab partners who must reveal the existence of the world's greatest medicine against the wishes of authorities.
Adult Swim has also renewed "My Adventures with Superman" for another season. The show, following a younger Clark Kent and Lois Lane, is currently in the middle of its fantastic second season. Joining Superman's renewal is "Smiling Friends", which will return for a third season.
