The Air Jordan 4 'Doernbecher' 2011 designed by Isaiah Scott is one of the most special Jordan retros ever created. That's not an overstatement. If you know the history of this design, it's tough not to appreciate its complex simplicity. I love this sneaker and what it represents, but I'd have to sell something valuable to get it. Let's talk sneakers.

Resale is the only path and it's pricey. The sneaker originally released on November 19, 2011, at $150 — a bargain by today's standards. Now, resale prices range from $800 to over $2,000 depending on size and condition.
StockX, GOAT, and consignment shops are your best options for finding a legit pair. The Air Jordan 4 'Toro Bravo' and Air Jordan 4 'Midnight Navy' give you a sense of how the AJ4 handles premium releases, but neither carries the historical weight of this one.
Scott is a cancer survivor who designed the iconic sneaker in 2011. He was battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He earned the nickname "Superman" because of his bravery. Everything about this story makes me love the sneaker even more.
The Doernbecher Freestyle program, run in partnership with OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, pairs Jordan Brand with young patients who design their own signature sneakers. Scott's entry stands as one of the program's most celebrated.
The story makes the sneaker special. Unfortunately, in my research, I learned that Scott's mother Shianne set up a Go Fund Me for Isaiah who was battling another form of the disease as of 2024. That makes the concept bitter sweet.
The Black/Old Royal/Electric Green colorway reads bold but purposeful — every color element traces back to the young designer's personal story. It's a sneaker you look at differently once you know what it represents.
I would not cop this sneaker in most instances. Instead, it would be more appropriate for Jordan Brand to re-release the sneaker with a portion or all of the proceeds going to Scott to help him and his family. That's the move.
The Air Jordan 4 'Infrared' and Air Jordan 4 'University Blue' are both strong AJ4 options at accessible prices in the meantime. But if Jordan Brand is reading this — bring back the Doernbecher and do it right.
