Persistence has put Alabama football in a position to land Xavier Griffin.
Griffin is a five-star prospect out of Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Georgia. He is set to choose between Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State and Texas around 1:45 p.m. CST on Sunday.
The Crimson Tide have been making a consistent push to recruit Griffin since March of 2024. The five-star grew up a fan of the Tide in Huntsville, Alabama which made his offer a significant one.
“I’ve always watched them growing up, and I’ve always been an Alabama fan,” Griffin said after earning the offer. “Seeing it through the Nick Saban era was really special, and I know all the talent they’ve produced through the years. I believe they will continue to do that.”
USC picked up a verbal commitment from Griffin on June 29, 2024. The Crimson Tide kept pushing hard for the five-star and managed to get him on campus multiple times for visits after his verbal commitment to the Trojans. Alabama’s outside linebacker coach Christian Robinson led the push by visiting Griffin multiple times in Georgia and continued to show him he was wanted in Tuscaloosa.
This push made the Tide a favorite to land Griffin the moment he de-committed from the Trojans.
Alabama hosted him for an official visit earlier this month, and the brotherhood within the program stood out to the five-star.
“I would say the brotherhood, the older guys and freshmen just took me in like I was already a part of the team,” Griffin said when asked about his biggest takeaway from the visit.
Griffin is a 6-foot-4 edge with a quick twitch, who can play sideline to sideline. The Alabama native is the true definition of a versatile linebacker prospect with his blend of size and athleticism to go along with his ability to make plays from the edge and off the ball. He feels his ability to get off blocks and close space are strengths of his game.
The Alabama target finished his junior season with 50 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and six sacks through seven games.
Alabama would love to add Griffin to its 2026 recruiting class.
