Lancashire Cricket has announced the signing of Australian leg-spinner Alana King on a multi-format contract.
The 29-year-old, who has won multiple Ashes and Cricket World Cup titles, will join Lancashire Thunder from the fourth Women’s Vitality Blast match and remain available for the rest of the T20 competition.
King will also feature in two Women’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup matches for Lancashire Women, facing Durham on July 24 and Essex on July 30.
Recently named Player of the Series in the Women’s Ashes after taking 23 wickets at an average of 11, King debuted for Australia in all formats in 2022 and was part of the ICC Cricket World Cup-winning side in New Zealand the same year.
She has also claimed gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in England and the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.
King, who represents Perth Scorchers, Trent Rockets, and UP Warriorz in franchise cricket, made history at Emirates Old Trafford in 2022 by taking the first-ever hat-trick in The Hundred.
"I am really honoured to be able to represent a great county in Lancashire. When I look at the past great names that have represented the county before me, it truly is a privilege to represent this team." King said.
“I am looking forward to teaming up with Crossy, Sophie, the rest of the Red Rose girls, and driving our charge towards a successful campaign in the Vitality Blast." she added.
Lancashire Women’s Head Coach Chris Read also commented: “We are thrilled by the news that Alana, one of the leading stars in the recent Women’s Ashes Series, will join us at Emirates Old Trafford later this summer.
