Chicago Sky star Angel Reese and NBA legend Magic Johnson recently announced a financial literacy program for high school seniors in Baltimore, Maryland. The initiative, which joins the Angel Reese Foundation with the Magic Johnson Foundation, aims to teach students how to manage their money and build toward their future.
Originally from Randallstown, Maryland, a small town about 30 minutes from Baltimore, Reese has tried to give back to where she got her start. In 2023, she donated $12,000 to support the girls' basketball team at Saint Frances Academy, as described in an article about the Wealth Playbook.
A joint statement shared on Instagram, released by the duo's foundations and Pull Up Neighbor, explained, "Our first session was in collaboration with Merrill Lynch, and the room was filled with energy, knowledge, and purpose. Students learned about budgeting, credit, and how to take control of their financial futures."
Angel Reese was asked why financial literacy was critical in her foundation's collaboration with Magic Johnson:

"A lot of times in school, they don't tech you about taxes, buying a house, appraisals, and stuff like that."

When Reese was asked why financial literacy was important, she explained how life's financial realities aren't taught in school. She added that her NIL money was given to her in one lump sum, which surely carried a big tax burden for that year.
Johnson's entrepreneurial career is just as prolific as his NBA career. According to Forbes, the 65-year-old is rumored to have a net worth well over $1 billion, with countless business ventures under his purview, including minority ownership stakes in the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Sparks and LAFC.
Reese's foundation is "dedicated to fostering equity for girls and underrepresented groups through innovative and impactful initiatives."
Last October, her foundation partnered with Tampax to donate 15,000 tampons to the Metro Chicago YMCA.
In February, Reese's mother, Angel S. Reese, president of Reese's foundation, was a guest speaker at a Tech Summit House event in Baltimore during the CIAA Tournament. The event covered topics such as mental wellness, financial literacy, home ownership and more.
Reese and the Sky begin their 2025 WNBA regular season on Saturday, May 17, with a road matchup against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
