To nobody’s surprise, the last official visit weekend of the spring produced numerous decommitments and flips. Here is a rundown of what occurred.
It started off slowly with only two flips on Friday. First was wide receiver Mikey McQueen (Mount Holly, NJ), who flipped from Temple to Syracuse. Considering the Orange lead the nation in decommitments, it was good for them to be on the receiving end this time. The second flip was a MAC to MAC move, as linebacker Tyler Carpenter (Trotwood, OH) went from Ohio to Bowling Green.
On Saturday, punter Jakob Madden (Valdosta, GA), backed off his commitment to Air Force. Several new offers have recently come his way (Troy, Georgia State, FAU), which led to his decision. Next up was three-star wide receiver Skylar Robinson (West Hills, CA) who parted ways with North Carolina after being committed to the Tar Heels for more than a year. Considering he hadn’t made any trips to Chapel Hill this year, this divorce was expected.
The weekend concluded with five more players having a change of heart. Three-star defensive end Kelsey Rose Jr. (Jackson, TN) flipped from Minnesota to USF after an official visit to Tampa, defensive end D’ante Seals (Trussville, AL) flipped from Georgia Southern to Troy, safety George Richards (Oakdale, CT) flipped from UConn to James Madison, three-star athlete Ayden Payne flipped from San Diego State to Oregon State after an official visit to Corvallis and finally three-star running back Khamoni Williams (Memphis, TN) flipped from West Virginia to Auburn after only being committed to the Mountaineers for less than two weeks.
The big one on Sunday was Williams’ flip from West Virginia to Auburn. This is a flip that makes sense. West Virginia still has two other running back commitments, while Williams gets to stay more local and play for a program that he had been a fan of growing up. Williams had long been a target for Auburn, but only recently became a priority.
While official visits are now complete for the season, expect more announcements of flips and decommitments as we head towards July 4th.
