The Arkansas Razorbacks just cannot escape themselves on the baseball field diamond. On Wednesday evening, they entered the ninth inning with a two-run lead over LSU, looking to push the two SEC foes to a second game that would decide a spot in the Men's College World Series finals.

Instead of finishing off the Tigers and living to fight another day, defensive mishaps cost the Razorbacks any chance to get back to the title series.

Wehiwa Aloy's decision costs Arkansas

With one out and two runners on for LSU, one of Arkansas' best players made a critical mistake.

Superstar shortstop Wehiwa Aloy decided to throw a fielded ground ball to third, only garnering one out. Aloy had the chance to throw it to second - starting a potential double play.

If the Razorbacks turned it, which looked rather likely on replay, that would have ended the ball game. Arkansas would be playing another baseball game tomorrow with another opportunity at a title run.

Instead, with two outs, the Razorbacks made an error in the outfield, allowing both runners still on base to score. That tied the game at five. LSU went on to get another clutch hit to score and walk off the Hogs.

I've been watching sports for 30 years. I have never seen anything like the bottom of the 9th of LSU-Arkansas. Not sure there's anything close, honestly. -- Aaron Torres

All in all, the decision from Aloy will most likely haunt him and Razorback fans for quite some time.

"The Arkansas Razorbacks almost got to College World Series championship round in part because of the heroics of Wehiwa Aloy all season long.

"And even in the tournament he was awesome. Scratch that. Early in their last game against LSU, he was awesome. But, it’s easy for fans to forget all that you’ve done to get there - when in the moment, you are a reason your team lost.

"Aloy won SEC Player of the Year because he is that good, and should be a top pick in the draft in just a few weeks, but his error late in the game vs. LSU could hurt his stock. Regardless, his clutch bat and ability to make something out of nothing at the plate during two strike situation was amazing to watch all year. What’s next? Who knows."

Expect Aloy to still be a first-round selection, maybe even in the top 10 picks. That being said, that bad decision certainly could leave a bad taste in the mouths of some pro scouts. Regardless, his talent and heart for the game are crystal clear.
