Because of single-digit temperatures in southern Indiana, the doors will open early Tuesday night for the Hoosiers' basketball game with Purdue.
Typically, the university opens the doors to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall 90 minutes before a game. But because they don't want fans standing in line outside, fans can enter at 5 p.m. ET instead tonight, two hours ahead of the scheduled 7 p.m. ET tip-off.
IU Police is "strongly encouraging fans to arrive early and lessen the possibility of extended wait times when entering the parking lots and the facility. If you arrive less than 60 minutes before tip-off, you should expect extended long waits.''
Officials also want a smooth process for people parking at Assembly Hall. They want all lines to move quickly.
"If you are parking in an IU Athletics lot with a pre-purchased parking pass, please have your parking pass ready to display to the gate attendant when you first enter the parking area.
"If you don’t have a pre-purchased parking pass and plan to pay to park in Lots 9, 10, or 11, we again strongly encourage you to arrive as early as possible to ensure parking options remain.''
