The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled a new revenue-sharing strategy aimed at resolving the ongoing payment challenges faced by teams in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

This initiative comes as a response to last season’s financial struggles, where some franchises failed to pay their players in full. During the BPL governing council meeting in Dhaka on Monday, the BCB laid out plans to distribute a portion of ticket sales revenue directly to the seven competing franchises.

Under the new model, the four teams that advanced to the playoffs will each receive roughly USD 45,000, while the other three teams will get about USD 36,000 each.

However, these payments will only be released before Eid-ul-Adha after the BCB verifies that teams have cleared their pending player salaries. The final amounts will be adjusted in proportion to the extent of dues settled by each franchise relative to their entitled share.

This marks a significant shift in the board’s approach, as it is the first time such direct financial support through gate receipts will be provided. The payment disputes became highly visible last season when overseas players from the Durbar Rajshahi team staged a boycott over unpaid salaries.

Local players also protested by skipping training sessions. The situation escalated to the point where some foreign players were stranded in hotels due to delayed payments, prompting intervention from the Bangladesh sports ministry. The ministry pressured the team owner, Shafiqur Rahman, to settle the outstanding dues.

The BCB also issued a firm warning, indicating that franchises continuing to delay payments despite repeated notices will face legal consequences.

Shocker: Notre Dame Football Revealed as a Financial Powerhouse

Filed under the "Water is Wet" category, Notre Dame annually makes a ton of money off of football. Despite the calls from others, Notre Dame football has remained independent all these years. As last season showed, Notre Dame also isn't just remaining anything, but is still thriving in the sport its history is most deeply rooted in. With no connection to a big-time conference like the Big Ten or SEC, though, just how valuable can Notre Dame's football team be, even with the financial backing of the institution? As you would probably expect, really stinking valuable. It's what those numbers say that speaks to Notre Dame's good standing both now and going forward, though. The Athletic Estimates Open-Market Price for College Football Teams The Athletic has been on a kick of releasing listing and tiers articles of late, and recently shared estimated values for college football teams on the opening market. You'll be stunned (sarcasm) to find out that Notre Dame ranked near the very top of the list. "We factored in everything from prestige and championships to facility renovations, population trends, and realignment scenarios," wrote Matt Baker. Notre Dame Ranks Fourth in Projected Value Despite not getting any assistance from a conference, Notre Dame managed to check in fourth on the list. The Athletic estimated Notre Dame's annual football revenue to be at $143 million, with a projected price for the program being at $1.85 billion. Texas, Georgia, and Ohio State were the only programs to come in higher than Notre Dame. Michigan, Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, Tennessee, and LSU checked in right behind Notre Dame, and rounded out the top 10. From Baker in The Athletic piece, regarding Notre Dame: The income doesn’t reflect a jump in TV revenue thanks to the contract extension the Irish landed with NBC in 2023; it’s large enough to put Notre Dame’s paydays within striking distance of SEC/Big Ten programs. Last year’s Playoff run helps, too, not that we need to justify the lofty price tag for a team known for putting flakes of real gold on its helmets. Nick Shepkowski's Quick Takeaway: This is a tough look for those who want Notre Dame to join a conference. The playing level is there, seeing as Notre Dame played for a national championship last year, and the financials put the Irish in the top five nationally. So why again should Notre Dame join the Big Ten or ACC? There was a time not that long ago that there were concerns about how Notre Dame would be able to compete in the NIL era. As it has turned out, it seems to have taken a little time to figure out how to properly use the system, but Notre Dame is thriving and using it to its advantage. The product on the field mixed with these reported financials doesn't just make Notre Dame one of the nation's top-looking programs in this moment, but also for the foreseeable future.

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani ties franchise record with HR vs. Twins

MLB's midseason break was kind to Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter and starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani. On Wednesday, the three-time MVP tied a Dodgers franchise record with a home run in his fifth consecutive game, taking Minnesota Twins right-handed starting pitcher Chris Paddack 441 feet to centerfield on an 0-2 79 mph curveball in the bottom of the first inning. Ohtani entered the All-Star break with 32 home runs but had just two in his 12 previous games before beginning his current streak. He's appeared in 101 of L.A.'s 103 games, putting him on pace for 159 games this season. If Ohtani continues at his home run trajectory, he'll set a personal record for single-season home runs, breaking the record he established last season, his first with the Dodgers. Per ESPN Bet, Ohtani (-1800) is an overwhelming favorite to be named NL MVP for the second consecutive season. With every home run hit, his odds of receiving a fourth overall MVP award likely increase. Also helping Ohtani's case is his return to the mound after not pitching a season ago while rehabbing from 2023 surgery. The Dodgers have slowly eased him back, with Ohtani throwing 12 innings in six starts, allowing nine hits and two earned runs with 13 strikeouts. Per Baseball Savant, he ranks in the top six percent in average fastball velocity (97.8 mph), a promising sign as he continues his progression. While the Dodgers keep him on a pitch count, Ohtani didn't need much warming up at the plate following the in-season break to find his swing. Some might argue he's already in postseason form.

Tua Tagovailoa addresses relationship with Tyreek Hill after controversial comments

Shortly after Miami Dolphins players reported for training camp on Tuesday, Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill suggested he wants to be "better as a leader" after he controversially subbed himself out of Miami's regular-season finale this past January and then told reporters he was "out." While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa addressed the Hill-sized elephant in the room. "I think there’s a lot more vulnerability with Tyreek," Tagovailoa explained, as shared by Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "He’s conversating a lot more with the guys, not just about football, but about things off the field, being vulnerable about some of the things people know about his personal life and things of that nature. I think that’s the first step toward him building true relationships and a real connection with a lot of the guys in there." Following Hill's "out" comment, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier revealed that the 31-year-old speedster never requested a trade. While publicly apologizing to his teammates during a Super Bowl week interview, Hill directly said that Tagovailoa is his "guy." Hill also insisted at the time that he loves Tagovailoa. "Everybody makes mistakes," Tagovailoa added about Hill. "It’s just, some people, they’re in the spotlight, and their deals get pushed out more than some others. So you’ve just got to cut him some grace. That’s our teammate. We love him, but as a person, I think if you get to know him, you’ll love him too." Hill and Tagovailoa likely will need to be on the same page if they want to prevent the Dolphins from going through a franchise reset next offseason. At least head coach Mike McDaniel is reportedly on the hot seat this summer, while Tagovailoa's status beyond the upcoming campaign is up in the air after he suffered a third reported concussion since the fall of 2022 last season. "You guys aren’t the only people that heard that," Tagovailoa said about Hill's "out" statement. "...So when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, 'Hey, my bad.' You’ve got to work that relationship up. You’ve got to build everything up again. It’s still a work in progress, not just for me but for everybody. But like I said, he’s working on himself, he’s working on the things he says he wants to get better with and do better on. So that’s the first step to me, so I commend him for doing that." As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the 2024 Dolphins at -275 betting odds to miss the playoffs. Those who believe the relationship between Tagovailoa and Hill is on shaky ground following Wednesday's developments may want to take a flier on such a wager before the odds change later this year.

Blue Jays aren't getting enough from their $500M man

Toronto Blue Jays fans don't have much to complain about. Despite losing 5-4 on Tuesday to the New York Yankees, their team leads the AL East by three games heading into play Wednesday against the Yankees. But not everything is perfect north of the U.S. border. Keegan Matheson, Blue Jays reporter for MLB.com, echoed that sentiment during Tuesday night's loss to New York in a post shared on X. "The #BlueJays need more from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and I don't understand why that's only being whispered instead of said out loud," Matheson wrote. Matheson has been beating this drum recently, and he's spot-on. Guerrero Jr., who signed a 14-year, $500M extension in April, hasn't produced superstar numbers. Through 99 games, Vladdy has a .283 average, 13 HRs and 48 RBI. Per ESPN, the 26-year-old is on pace for 21 HRs and 77 RBI, which would by far his lowest full-season totals in those categories since his rookie season in 2019. Although they have one of MLB's best records, the Blue Jays (59-42) lack pop in the lineup. Toronto ranks 20th in the majors in home runs with 105. If Vladdy finds his power stroke and turn it on in the final months of the regular season, the Blue Jays will go from being a playoff contender to a threat to win the World Series. If he doesn't, the Blue Jays aren't getting their money's worth.
