A football team in New Jersey is in mourning this week after a beloved coach was killed in an absolutely tragic car accident.
According to NJ.com's Ryan Patti, Bergenfield head coach Rob Violante was killed in a fatal car accident this past Wednesday. ABC reported that Violante was one of four victims in the crash, which took place on the Taconic State Parkway.
Per the report, a van carrying three passengers was traveling southbound when it crossed the center median and entered the northbound lanes. The van hit a car, killing the car's driver while the three van passengers died. The van's driver is reportedly still in critical condition. Violante was among the deceased.
Violante had been Bergenfield's head coach for 14 years, leading the team to the playoffs five times. He previously played quarterback at Iona College and the University of Delaware. He won 61 games and was entering his 15th season, which would have made him tied for the longest-tenured football coach in school history.
