Conference play is underway in Big 12 country, with all 14 teams taking the field this past weekend. We are moving through conference play, so now is the time when teams begin to separate themselves at the top of the standings. And we’re seeing exactly that. Keep in mind, things can change quickly in the Big 12 from week to week, but here are my Big 12 baseball power rankings after the eighth weekend of action in conference play.

#1 Kansas Jayhawks (Last Week: No. 1)

For what feels like the millionth time in a row, the Kansas Jayhawks stay at the top of my Big 12 power rankings. Kansas just completed a sweep over Arizona and notched its 20th win of the season in conference play. Not only are they a lock to win the Big 12, but also host a regional.

#2 Arizona State Sun Devils (Last Week: No. 2)

The Sun Devils stay at number two after an impressive series win over UCF in Orlando. Outside of Kansas, nobody is playing better baseball than Arizona State in the Big 12 right now.

#3 Cincinnati Bearcats (Last Week: No. 4)

For the first time in forever, the Bearcats are over .500 in Big 12 play after a sweep against Houston. This team is now in a prime position to make the postseason.

#4 West Virginia Mountaineers (Last Week: No. 5)

The Mountaineers had a huge weekend after a sweep over Kansas State. The Mountaineers outscored the Wildcats 29 to 7 in their three-game set and are still in the hunt for a Big 12 title.

#5 Oklahoma State Cowboys (Last Week: No. 7)

Make that six wins in a row for the Cowboys after a sweep over TCU this past weekend. Oklahoma State is now 14-10 in Big 12 play after being two games under .500 just two weeks ago.

#6 UCF Knights (Last Week: No. 6)

I decided not to move the Knights down despite a series loss to Arizona State this past weekend. I know UCF has been trending down as of late, but they are still one of the best teams in the Big 12.

#7 TCU Horned Frogs (Last Week: No. 3)

Last weekend was an opportunity for TCU to step up, but instead, they fell on their face after getting swept by Oklahoma State. But hey, at least Kirk Sarloos had a cool ejection the other night.

#8 Utah Utes (Last Week: No. 10)

The Utes move up after a nice series win over BYU. After dropping game one, Utah took the last two games of the series and spoiled the postseason hopes of their in-state rival.

#9 BYU Cougars (Last Week: No. 8)

A win could have put the Cougars in position to make the postseason, but after a series loss to Utah, it’s a long shot for them to make the Field of 64.

#10 Kansas State Wildcats (Last Week: No. 9)

It’s been a rough two weeks for the Wildcats. After being a postseason bubble team, Kansas State has now lost six straight conference games over the past two weekends after getting swept by West Virginia.

#11 Baylor Bears (Last Week: No. 12)

The good news is that Baylor beat Texas Tech this past weekend. The bad news is that they are still just 11-13 in conference action. Getting to .500 would be a step in the right direction for this program.

#12 Arizona Wildcats (Last Week: No. 11)

It’s crazy to think that this team was supposed to compete for a Big 12 title because they have done nothing but underachieve this year. After getting swept by Kansas, the Wildcats are now ten games under .500 in Big 12 play.

#13 Texas Tech Red Raiders (Last Week: No. 13)

Put a fork in this team because they are officially done. After a series loss to Baylor, there is no hope for the Red Raiders to make the postseason at all. This program is in shambles.

#14 Houston Cougars (Last Week: No. 14)

Once again, the Cougars find themselves at the bottom of the list after getting swept once again. 4-20 in conference play seems nearly impossible to do.
