On Monday, August 26, 2024, the Big Ten conference finalized and announced it's new tie breaking procedures for the championship game. In the official document, the Big Ten explains the 6 steps for both a two-way tie and the process for a situation in which the tie involves three or more teams. Any other Big Ten teams that are not qualified for the postseason will not be counted in the tiebreaker decisions.

Here is the procedure in the event that two teams tie for one spot (the steps will be taken in order until a difference is identified):

1. Head-to-head result

The two teams are compared based their own head-to-head matchup (if played) against each other during the regular season.

2. Record against conference opponents

If the two teams haven't played each other, their record against common confrence opponents will be compared.

3. Record against common opponents with the best conference record

The tied teams will be compared based on their record against common opponents with the best respective conference records and preceding through the common conference opponents based off order of finish.

4. Best cumulative conference winning percentage

The two teams will be compared based on the best cumulative conference winning percentage of all conference opponents.

5. Ranking on SportSource Analytics

The team that advances will be chosen based on the highest ranking by SportSource Analytics which is a team Rating Score metric. This will be based on the regular season.

6. Random Draw

The team will be chosen by random draw between the two teams. The draw will be conducted by either Commissioner Tony Petitti, or a designee.

Because the Big Ten has now expanded to 18 colleges and removed the East and West divisions in college football, a tie between three or more teams becomes more complicated. If three teams tie for the two championship spots, the first team to qualify automatically advances, and the two other teams start at the first step of the two-team tiebreaker procedures. If there are four teams that are tied, the No. 1 team will advance, and the other three teams will be compared using the three-team tie breaking procedures.

Here is the procedure for a tiebreaker that involves 3 or more teams:

If any tiebreaker step produces results with two teams tied for No. 1, both are selected for the championship game. To decide the seeding of the two teams, they will progress through the two-team tiebreaker procedures.

If a tiebreaker step produces results with one team being eliminated from proceeding to the next step in the tiebreaker process, the team that is eliminated shall not be pulled back into the tiebreaker for any future step(s).

The 2024 Discover Big Ten championship game will be played on Saturday, December 7, in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. It will be aired on CBS for the first time. The winner of the championship game will guarantee their spot in the College Football Playoffs.

Michigan football beaten out by SEC school for coveted class of 2026 linebacker

Saturday was not kind to Michigan football on the recruiting trail. Earlier in the day, the Wolverines lost a recruiting battle to LSU for four-star defensive lineman Deuce Geralds. Then, by evening, despite making a strong push for the nation's top cornerback in the class in Davon Benjamin, the Oaks Christian product chose Oregon. Shortly after Benjamin's announcement, four-star linebacker Anthony Davis revealed he was committing to Ole Miss, who was another prospect Michigan was in the running for before coming up short. The Wolverines have other targets the staff will try to seal the deal with in the upcoming months before the early signing period, but over the weekend came up empty on all three targets. Davis took an official visit to Michigan in June after making his debut trip to Ann Arbor for spring ball in April. Although linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and the staff began to make a strong push for the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder, the Wolverines were never considered a frontrunner for the coveted linebacker, as Auburn was trending early with the Rebels making a later surge, according to Rivals' Chad Simmons. "Ole Miss started to make their move when coachcame to my house in January,” Davis told Rivals. “We talked for a couple hours about the defense, his plan for me, and what life would be like there.” Michigan, whose 2026 class ranks 11th in the nation according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, will now regroup and focus on other targets it has a chance to land at the position group in the class. Three-star Markel Dabney is the lone true linebacker committed to the class after flipping from SMU to the Wolverines in June. After missing on Davis, along with fellow four-star Nick Abrams to Georgia, IMG Academy's DQ Forkpa could very well be the focus point for Jean-Mary and the U-M staff. Forkpa was originally slated to make a decision on his commitment last month, but canceled those plans after the Wolverines reportedly made his recruitment take a turn due to a strong push from the Michigan staff. Now, Forkpa will take his decision into the 2025 season as the Wolverines continue to recruit him and add to their 2026 class as a whole. Aaron Boone addresses Alex Rodriguez’s criticism of Yankees

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone responded Sunday, one day after Alex Rodriguez suggested his team lacks discipline and accountability. On FOX’s MLB pregame show Saturday, Rodriguez questioned the “accountability” of the Yankees after Boone did not pull Jazz Chisholm from Saturday’s loss to Miami after the infielder made a brutal baserunning blunder. Rodriguez suggested that the Yankees do not face consequences for such mistakes, and that it has contributed to further errors. “If any one of us made a mistake, we would be sitting our butt right on the bench,” Rodriguez said. “I see mistake after mistake, and there’s no consequences.” Boone took issue with those remarks when asked about them on Sunday. He said he accepts that the Yankees will always face added scrutiny, but that he disagreed with the substance of Rodriguez’s remarks. “I would disagree a little bit with the accountability factor, but the reality is, we’re focused every day on being the best we can be,” Boone said, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “That’s how we have to do it. But I understand when it doesn’t happen, or we don’t have the record that I think we should have, or certainly people think we should have — that comes with the territory.” Boone is known for keeping things positive publicly, even when things are going poorly for the Yankees. That has led to some criticism from fans, who feel that he goes too easy on his players when they are underperforming. The team’s recent stretch of mediocre play combined with a lack of consequences for errors like Chisholm’s have reinforced those critiques. The Yankees lost again on Sunday and were swept by the Marlins, dropping them to 60-51 on the season. Until the team starts consistently winning again, Boone is going to hear more comments like Rodriguez’s.

Brock Lesnar makes shocking return at WWE SummerSlam

It's feeling like 2012 all over again. SummerSlam 2025 ended with shock and nostalgia when Brock Lesnar returned unannounced and dropped John Cena with a thunderous F5, just as Cena was addressing the crowd during his retirement tour. The moment felt poetic, mirroring the night after WrestleMania 28 in 2012, when Lesnar returned to WWE for the first time in eight years and F5’d Cena, launching a brutal and unforgettable rivalry. This attack wasn’t just for show. With Cena’s farewell tour expected to end in December, the timing of Lesnar’s return feels intentional. WWE is known for delivering emotional, high-stakes finales for its legends and this could be the setup for one last epic clash between two of the most iconic figures in company history. Their rivalry has always delivered, from their battles in 2012–14 to the infamous “Suplex City” beatdown at SummerSlam 2014. Now, with both men nearing the end of their in-ring careers, fans may be getting a final chapter in this storied feud. Whether it culminates at the Royal Rumble or on the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania 41, the anticipation is real. Lesnar has been off WWE TV for nearly a year, making this return even more impactful. For Cena, who has been embracing his final run with open arms, a showdown with Lesnar is a fitting, full-circle moment. It’s the kind of storytelling WWE thrives on — legacy vs. legacy, pride vs. redemption.
