NFL legend Brett Favre was a short-term teammate and long-term rival of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders. Having battled through health issues of his own, he had some things to say about Coach Prime's recent cancer diagnosis.
Earlier this week, the Colorado head football coach announced that he had to get his bladder removed after doctors found a cancerous tumor. Fortunately, he has now been deemed cancer-free by his doctors and is ready to move forward with coaching the team.
Favre, who was teammates with Sanders on the Atlanta Falcons in 1991 before joining the Packers and battling him many times afterwards, spoke to TMZ this week to give his reaction to Sanders' diagnosis. He said that while he was "shocked" and "completely caught off guard" by the news when Sanders revealed it, he was happy to hear that the prognosis was good.
"Thank God they found it and it was a successful surgery," Favre said. "But I was completely caught off guard with the news but I'm thankful that the prognosis looks good."
As for Sanders' decision to keep coaching in the wake of his prognosis, Favre said he wasn't surprised. He said that he expects and even encourages Sanders to keep doing his own thing and "keep it rolling.
"I'm not surprised he's digging his heels in and is going to keep coaching," Favre said. "Not that he needs my advice but just keep doing what you're doing. You're impacting so many people and so many people are pulling for you, just keep it rolling."
Favre himself has been battling a slew of health issues for decades. Between the various addictions that plagued him in the 90s to the injuries he suffered, he retired worse for wear.
But the biggest health issue he's been battling recently has been Parkinson's disease.
We wish both of the NFL legends the best moving forward.
