Cleveland Browns rookie Dillon Gabriel isn't going to bite on any questions that could cause a rift in the quarterback room between him and Shedeur Sanders.
Two rookies are among four quarterbacks competing for the Browns' starting job. Dillon Gabriel, a third-round pick, was selected ahead of Shedeur Sanders, who slid unexpectedly to the fifth round despite once being projected as an early first-rounder.
The addition of Sanders added a layer of intrigue — and pressure — for Gabriel, who now faces competition from a high-profile rookie. Veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett also remain firmly in the mix.
When asked if it was “awkward” to share the quarterback room with Sanders, Gabriel shut down the question from veteran Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.
"The more questions I get asked like that, it just divides the team. We're in a room of not just us — Kenny, Joe and Deshaun too. For us, we know how important a healthy QB room is," Gabriel said. "How do you create an environment where, every single day, where everybody can be at their best? And that's just pushing one another, which talent naturally does. Naturally, it's healthy for us where we all go do our thing and everyone wins."
Gabriel handled the situation like a veteran, which is on brand and something the Browns need as they sort out their quarterback depth chart. The former Oregon quarterback is 24 years old and has six years of college football experience on his resume with UCF, Oklahoma and Oregon.
