Gigi Buffon’s son has received his first call-up for international duty with the Under-18 side, but it is for the Czechia squad rather than Italy.

Louis Thomas Buffon plays the role of midfielder or left-sided winger and is in the Pisa squad, where he is currently coached by fellow 2006 World Cup winner Pippo Inzaghi.

It is now confirmed that the teenager has been called up for the upcoming March games by the Czech Republic Under-18 international team.

This is because he has dual citizenship from his Italian father and Czech mother, Alena Seredova.

Buffon call does not end hope of Italy future

A player can represent a country at youth level and still change his allegiance to a different nation once he reaches the senior stages of competition.

Louis Thomas Buffon was named after SuperGigi’s football hero, former Cameroon goalkeeper Thomas N’Kono.

He was born in December 2007 and so only recently turned 17 years of age.

Although yet to make his senior football debut, he has scored four goals in 18 appearances for the Pisa Primavera side this season.
