Lyons, the 17th-ranked overall player in his class, has previous ties to the university, as his father, Tim Lyons played defensive back for BYU back in 1996.
According to Sports Illustrated, Lyons will not officially enroll at BYU until January 2027 after serving a mission.
After throwing for 3,011 yards and 46 touchdowns last season, he was named 2024 Gatorade California Football Player of the Year.
Not only is he an elite passer but Lyons is a threat through the ground game, as he rushed for 585 yards and 14 touchdowns.
BYU finished 2024 with an 11-2 record, its most wins in a season since 2020. In just their second season competing in the Big 12 Conference, the Cougars finished second with a league record of 7-2.
The program will kick off the 2025 season at home at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 against Portland State.
