Indiana Fever’s star rookie Caitlin Clark is in a celebratory mood as her boyfriend Connor McCaffery recently got hired for a new job. After spending time as the team assistant for the Indiana Pacers, McCaffery will be returning to college for a more lucrative gig.

Clark’s boyfriend will be joining Butler University’s coaching staff as an assistant coach. The former Iowa Hawkeye took to Instagram, posting a story to express her pride for her man.

“Yayy!! so happy for you,” Caitlin Clark said in the post.

According to Fieldhouse Files’ Scott Agness, McCaffery will replace former NBA player Greg Oden, who was the first overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Oden confirmed shortly after McCaffery’s hiring that he would be leaving Butler after having been part of its coaching staff since 2022.

Speaking of the Iowa Hawkeyes , Connor McCaffery’s younger brother Patrick transferred from the University of Iowa to join and play for the Bulldogs this season. And their other younger brother, Jack, who is currently heading into his senior season at Iowa City West High School, is also committed to the Bulldogs in the 2025 recruiting class.

Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend is going to meet some high expectations from Butler head coach

Following Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend Connor McCaffery’s hiring, Butler head coach Thad Matta expressed his thoughts on the news. Matta said McCaffery’s prior experience with the Indiana Pacers will aid him and his staff in improving their system.

“Following a high-level playing career, Connor has had the opportunity to both contribute and learn alongside one of the best staffs in the NBA,” Coach Matta said in his statement. “Those experiences will be very valuable to our staff. He obviously comes from a basketball family that I know very well and I’m excited for the impact he is going to have on our program both quickly and in the long run.”

Connor McCaffery spent six seasons playing at the University of Iowa, scoring more than 700 points, grabbing over 500 rebounds, and dishing more than 500 assists. He was part of the Iowa roster that won the Big Ten Tournament championship in 2022.

It was never clear how Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffrey met since they’ve never personally shared how their romance came to be, but it’s likely that they met at the University of Iowa. They began dating on April 24, 2023, and went public in August of that year.
