With Justin Wilcox getting fired, plenty of interested eyes will be on Cal players to see who might be interested in transferring. Here are the five players who would receive the most interest if they entered.
The skinny: A young, talented quarterback who was a day-one starter and often performed like a veteran would create immediate buzz in the portal. While Sagapolutele has said that he plans to return to Cal in 2026, that was before the Wilcox firing. Will this change his mind? You can be sure that other programs will try to persuade him to do so.
Sagapolutele has passed for 2,787 yards, 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season while completing 62.2% of his attempts. Not surprisingly, consistency has lacked at times, but he showed more than enough to become a top target for countless programs.
The skinny: It is unknown if Uluave will forego his senior season for the NFL, but if he doesn’t, the line for his services will be extremely long. Uluave made an immediate impact as a true freshman and has continued to do, becoming the Golden Bears top player and a captain. This season he has totaled 82 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and six passes defended, while in his 32-game career he has 219 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, six sacks, three interceptions, 11 passes defended, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He would immediately become a starter on almost every team in the country.
The skinny: Ferrelli redshirted in 2024 before surprisingly becoming one of Cal’s top defensive players in 2025. He has totaled 82 tackles, five tackles for loss and one interception for the Golden Bears, with double-digit tackle games coming against Stanford and Minnesota. Also, his one interception was a big one, as it sealed the victory over Boston College.
Bush first proved himself at Liberty before doing the same during his one season at Cal. Coming off a 2024 season when he finished with 58 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks with the Flames, this season at Cal he has 36 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He is capable of playing either outside linebacker or defensive end.
The skinny: Mini started his collegiate career at Idaho, where he redshirted in 2023 before grabbing five receptions for 61 yards in 2024. His production this season has been a pleasant surprise for the Golden Bears, as he has totaled 35 receptions for 387 yards and four touchdowns. Mini has been a reliable target for Sagapolutele throughout the season.
