At the Travelers Championship this week, star PGA Tour pro Cameron Young found himself in the unexpected position of having his father step in as his caddie when regular looper Kyle Sterbinsky fell ill.
A day after shooting a first-round 65 at TPC River Highlands, Young reminisced about his dad, David, and even teased about his mom, Barbara, joining the crew.
"He caddied for me for nine holes at Bay Hill a couple years ago, 2022, I believe. But no. But he's out there all the time, so it's pretty easy," Young said, in response to a question about whether his dad had ever caddied for him before, in a press conference on Thursday.
“He hung in there. I think that hill on 17 was not his favorite. But he made it, and hopefully don't need him again tomorrow.” Young praised.
“He was just feeling sick, and I don't want what he has, and I don't want any of my kids to have what he has. Figured just give him an extra day to recover." Young detailed when asked about Kyle's condition.
"I'm sure he could have come out here if his life depended on it. But with my dad here and just not wanting to get anybody else sick…”
Not only his dad, but Young's mom also caddied for him back in the day. The reporters referenced that to ask whether he thought about asking his mom.

“I'm sure she would have liked me to," Young replied. "It would be fun, but I think my dad is just — he walks so many holes with me and knows the game so well that he can be an asset for me out there, where my mom is watching from a little bit farther away usually.”
Young now sits tied in 23rd position with a score of 2-under par.
