Can Le’Veon Bell Be Successful in Boxing?
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Former NFL star Le’Veon Bell might not be on the football field anymore. The former Steeler had a good career, rushing for 6,554 yards and scoring 42 touchdowns. However, the running back has his eyes set on another venture: the boxing ring.

Bell stated his intentions to become a star boxer, hoping to “be the best.” The 32-year-old does have an upcoming fight against influencer Tristan Hamm in Houston, Texas. It gives Bell the chance to prove there’s life after football.

After all, numerous former NFL players have made their mark in fighting. Whether it was Matt Mitrione or Austen Lane, American football has provided a bridge for aspiring MMA fighters to cross. For the boxing world, it’s no different.

Can Le’Veon Bell Be a Boxing Success?

Le’Veon Bell does have some boxing experience, scoring a 5th-round knockout against fellow NFL alum Adrian Peterson in 2022. Therefore, his upcoming fight against Hamm on May 25 should be a breeze, right?

Well, looking at Bell’s fighting, it seems he has quickness to his game. The former Pittsburgh Steeler can dodge punches accordingly, making him solid defensively.

However, he does spend too much time stuck in a position. For example, he tends to get too low in a fight, looking for an opening. The Peterson fight consisted of always waiting for openings, missing out on quick strikes to wear Peterson down.

Often, Bell would leave his guard down, which spells trouble against a trained boxer. If the former running back wants to be a successful boxer, he must be careful. Otherwise, he’ll get punched quite a bit.

Le’Veon Bell’s Got Potential, Though

However, that doesn’t mean Le’Veon Bell isn’t a good fighter. Bell has shown great patience in his fighting style, refraining from taking wild swings. It’s just the 32-year-old can’t be overly patient, for he must take some risks while getting out of being low.

Bell is also a coachable fighter, learning how to improve in every facet. That’s something that makes great fighters, which could translate into championship opportunities for Bell. If the former Steeler can continue to learn and grow, he can become a formidable boxer.
