Canada has secured its place at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, following an impressive performance in the Americas Regional Qualifier held in King City, Ontario.
The Canadians triumphed over the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands to clinch their spot, becoming the 13th team confirmed for the tournament set to take place in India and Sri Lanka.
Despite participating in the 2024 edition, Canada was eliminated during the group stage and failed to secure automatic qualification based on ICC rankings. This meant the team had to navigate the regional qualifiers to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Canada’s campaign in the qualifier was nothing short of dominant. They secured their World Cup berth with a commanding seven-wicket win over the Bahamas on Saturday. Bowlers Kaleem Sana and Shivam Sharma dismantled the opposition, each claiming three wickets to bowl out the Bahamas for just 57 runs. Canada chased down the target in just 5.3 overs, powered by Dilpreet Bajwa’s explosive 36 not out from 14 deliveries.
Later, Canada wrapped up the qualifiers with a convincing six-wicket victory over Bermuda on Sunday, finishing the tournament undefeated and comfortably ahead of their rivals.
Celebrating their achievement, Canada Cricket posted on X, “WE’RE GOING TO THE WORLD CUP AGAIN! What a campaign. What a team. What a moment.”
They now join host nations India and Sri Lanka, along with Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the United States, the West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand, and Pakistan.
The seven remaining World Cup slots will be filled through upcoming continental qualifiers in Europe, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific.
